Greetings from Berlin. We arrived here at 3-15pm from Prague. Without too much drama we found the bus to The Three Little Pigs Hostel, down the road from the Potsdamer Platz. We went out for tea with Stephan, he lives here in Berlin, then we wandered around Postdamer Platz and the Sony Centre nearby. Saw some of the Berlin Wall and took pics. Tomorrow there is a free walking tour from the hostel at 10.30am so we are there! No pics for a couple of days, at least till Hannover. Bye from me.... read more

So I made it; at least to Munich. I’m waiting to board my flight to Florence. The flight over here wasn’t all that bad. I sat next to a Greek gentleman, and that was interesting, to say the least. But I do have to say that I had the best seat: 33K, a window seat right next to the wing. It was the perfect seat for my first international flight. And I do have to say Lufthansa is awesome. The seats were comfy, even though they were cramped. Every person had their own personal TV with movies, music, and other stuff to watch. They served us two meals and the food was actually good! The stewardesses were really nice too. I didn’t sleep very well, but I’ve never been the type of person who can easily ... read more

Well, I am back in Germany after my Southern sojourns. I boarded a night train from Burgos to Paris in the middle of the second half of the Spain v. Germany game, and was on the edge of my bunk waiting to learn who won. When I got to Paris I saw people walking around wearing Spanish flags and knew immediately. I wasn't able to get a train to Munich until that night, so I got to spend the day in Paris. I walked all around, going back to my old neighborhood to get my favorite sandwich from my favorite boulangerie, which I ate on a bench facing Les Invalides. I walked around the Opera area, over to Les Halles and then up to the Centre Pompidou to see if there was an interesting show on. ... read more

i am not sure how much of my blog is being covered by yusuf who is also writing simultaneously. apologies for revising the same events over and again, should that be the case. first of all, we are using german keyboards, making things incredibly difficult to write with. they have symbols such as Ä and ß which are obviously redundant in english. furthermore the y and z buttons are in opposite positions and this is succesfully driving me up the wall. no matter. right, we didnt think we'd make it to berlin last night. the odds were certainly against us. i believe yusuf has documented the epic events of the dash from hradec to prague and so theres no need for me to re-iterate. perhaps i could discuss the hostel saga. having booked our hostel earlier ... read more

Berlin In Berlin now... only been here a day and knackard. Went to Berlin Zoo today, which was quite good, and saw some buildings which I cant remember the name of (ignorant I know sorry). On the way back saw groups of men just sunbathing naked in the park, just stretched out was really bizzar and random. Saw just under half of the Babylon exhibition as they took our money then kicked us out to close the museum. Going for some German food and beer tonight, in an outside beer garden that overlooks a lake. Sorry brief internet time running out also bad spelling and grammar. The keyboard isnt normal, cant find half the keys. ... read more

To start off my entry, I have a creepy anecdote. The other day, I was riding to a soccer game on the S-Bahn. It was really cramped and more people were getting on on every stop. I was stuck up next to this homeless lady and had to be pressed against her. This was bad enough, until I glanced down at the baby carriage she was pushing. The inside where the baby would have been was covered in blood. It kind of freaked me out, but I didn't want to do anything, so I just waited and prayed to god she wasn't going to force me at knifepoint to play "family" or some other creepy thing. She got off soon and I was relieved. The german lady next to me seemed to be happy, too. Weird... ... read more

So it rained all day July 4th. We did get out that night and have an excellent dinner by our hotel. Slept until 9:30 (we both have slept so welll in Europe). Then we headed out for a tour of Berlin. It is a huge City. Bigger than Paris with over 3 Million people. Great public transportation. We went from on end of the city to the other. The American Embassy was dedicated today and George HW Bush (former President) was suppose to be there (we did't see him).... read more

So we visitied the Berlin Wall and Check Point Charlie. We hadn't realized that the wall went up August of 1961. Before there had been travel restrictions but the wall went up then. Check Point Charlie was the place where east met west. There isn't much of the wall left. We did go to one area where they have preserved the Wall and show how the East German govenrment created a "death strip" between the wall and East Berlin, not allowing anyone to leave East Berlin. Very interesting! In addition to seeing the historical sites, we did some people watching while we ate and drank some beer. On our way to Checkpoint Charlie's, which is quite a few train rides away from the hotel (Berlin is an absolutely huge city), we stopped and had lunch at ... read more
