Well I´ve been in Munich for two full days now and it is an awesome place. I´ve had two great days, and for the first time on this trip, I haven´t really minded getting back into a big city. Usually we miss the country and the sea, but not this time. After arriving here on Monday, we went out walking. It was pretty late in the day, so we decided to just go; instead of making a plan and a destination. So we took the U-Bahn and S-Bahn (subway lines) to Marienplaty and went from there. The streets around there are wide, cobblestoned, and what you call Fussganger - car-free. We saw some pretty cool shops, but they were mostly closing around then, so we made our way back to a place we´d seen called Thai ... read more

by anna (and david) May 30th-June 3rd Our trip to Berlin didn't start well. We spent 4.5 hours in Madrid airport, without knowing why, or when it was going to end, while EasyJet sorted themselves out (... with the tail end of a massive hangover from celebrating the end of school term with one of my classmates Sue, and her boyfriend Miguel, at a great bar overlooking the city). By the time we arrived at our hotel, it was almost 5am and the sun was coming up. Needless to say, we spent the first half of day one snoring. After a sleep, and excited to see the city, we went exploring. Having braced ourselves for the heaviness of schnitzels, dumplings and beer, we were pleasantly surprised to find a great salad and pasta place near Alexanderplatz ... read more

I just wrote a huge blog on what's been going on, and I lost it. So here's the synopsis (I'm really tired and ready for bed): After spending the morning at school and in a tour, we went bowling and out walking. At night, we talked a crapload and it was refreshing to speak so much good german. Everyone has been complimenting me and going out of their ways to talk to me, which is good for my self-esteem. My german also gets me invited to a lot of stuff, so I've been and will be very busy the whole time I'm here. It's really hard to type in English right now. Hopefully I can type more tomorrow... In the meantime, enjoy some pictures.... read more

This blog is late, we don’t apologise. I had a cold and we didn’t have access to a computer for a little. And I didn’t feel like writing another what with finding jobs and a place to live in London. Anyway enough of that. For the past couple of days we have been in Berlin. It’s certainly different to Warsaw but fantastic, so big, so many people and the train system is unbelievable. Melbourne and Connex really suck. Our Germany experience began on the 29th of June, the Euro Cup final, Germany Vs Spain. Our hostel was owned by a Kiwi and they had toasted sandwiches on their restaurant menu. It was the greatest ham cheese and pineapple sandwich we’ve had. Stephen and I decided to find some locals and watch the game. We headed to ... read more

It was yet another great day here today! We met as a group this morning and discussed how things were going with their families and at school. It sounds like things are really going well! We heard lots of fun stories from home and trips that they have been on around Hamburg already. Funny and interesting stories abound! After our meeting, the kids went to class with their partner or attended an English class with Ms. Herder and I in order to help some younger German students with their English language skills. Then it was off on a walk to the Phoenix Mall. This 3 story giant had our kids grinning from ear to ear. They had about 2 hours to shop and wander the mall before we met for ice cream at a shop on ... read more

Travel Blog Day 7 Heidelberg Back on the train, heading at high speeds and blogging to pass the time, ah the strangeness of Europe. In America I’d drive, and driving and blogging would be a pretty terrible idea, so we just listen to music… this allows you to be more productive, but the cost is more than driving is (well I don’t know what gas prices have done in 7 days). We are headed to Munich now, and it is a 3 hour train ride… basically we have to go back West to get East, because if there was a direct train it’d be an hour. In Munich we will be picking up the 3rd member of our crew, Kyle. He is coming in from London and we have no idea when he will be in, ... read more
