Hiya everybody. Thanks for all the advice on bites! Very helpful! We were at Lampang for two days and we visited more temples and KFC's. Both were very nice. We made a great discovery while we were there that you cannot trust the food - and that you must therefore always check the best before date even in Tescos! We still have not found a packet of noodles in date but they still are edible. We are now in Chang Mai - the home of tourists. A starbucks on every corner. Yesterday we went to two temples and managed to see a Buddist ritual where the monks go out in a long line and people give them money/food/offerings in return for good luck. So that was very nice. We also went to Tesco in the evening ... read more

Sawadee Khap! Another picture-free update from yours truly, the lazy-ass wanderer. I know it's been a while since I updated the blog, but I'm back in Bangkok without any spectacular new pictures to post, so bear with me. So plans have changed slightly since the last entry. Instead of heading down to Koh Tao to do some snorkelling and/or diving, I'm now back in Bangkok and headed to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam! Our flight leaves Bangkok on Sunday (June 4th), so all going well, a few days after that I should have some sweet pictures to post. Booking the flights to Vietnam was a pain in the ass, more specifically the wallet area on the ass. Apparently, for reasons completely unknown to me, flying from BKK to Ho Chi Minh City (aka: Saigon) is ... read more

Thailand - Phuket, Patong Beach, Kata beach I'm not sure if it was the humidity or the offers for "special price" that got to us first as we stepped onto the footpath from the hotel. It was time to explore Patong, as it was our first stop after a smooth flight over from Melbourne to Bangkok and a short transfer to Phuket. Patong is a bustling coastal town aimed at extracting every last baht (currency here) from uninitiated tourists. Everything is for sale here including "authentic" Diesel sandals, shirts, watches and of course girls and lady boys. :) It's a shock initially but after a while it just becomes normal and bartering can be fun and there are some real bargains to be had. We flew Thai airlines which were great and the flight went quite ... read more

We arrived at Bangkok airport at around midnight and after finding out that the airport hotel listed in the travel guide as $50 US is now $300US we set to finding somewhere else to stay. We booked a place with a guy at the airport - overpriced but the transfer and everything was sorted for us and it was only for one night. At 1am after the 9 hr flight and a few beers with Jon and a few more on the plane we just wanted to get into bed. We awoke suprisingly refreshed the next morning and set out on our mission to go to our desired hostel - Shanti Lodge. How bloody diffuicult is it to get a taxi or tuk tuk to where you want to go. I don't want to go to ... read more

Where did June come from??? Oh my gosh we have been away 9 months! Today we sent some stuff home that was weighing us down. It was somewhat more expensive then we expected, but at least now we have room to fill up with new stuff!! We have spent the day checking out Krabi town, walking down by the river, getting hassled to go on trips, and checking out tours for tomorrow. As we walked around town, browsing in the shops, we passed a quite nice looking bakery. Maybe we may go in and get us a little sweet snack, we thought. We had one foot in the door when we saw a woman who worked there with a large length of wood in her hand (used to keep the sliding doors open) as we realised ... read more

We got Bangkok Airways to Phuket today. Wow our accommodation was like $10.00 each amazing value. Spacious, clean, few problems with the air con. However i don't think you could even get the shampoo and soap for what we paid for the whole room. Sandy Beach Mansion. Patong Beach was a marid of markets and small shops. These guys are sure enough to bug the living day lights out of you. Our small road to the beach had quiet a few taylors and massage places down it. They first ask "are you Aussies?", nah from New Zealand "Kiora Mate" they had it down. "We give kiwis good price!!" oh yea.. ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Tao June 1st 2006

We rolled into the Chumphon train station before sunrise and then rode a songtaew to the dock. The boat ride was about two hours. On Ko Tao we were met by a guy with our names on a sign and he led us to the main Crystal Dive Resort. We checked in with the dive folks and then got a taxi to the Crystal O’Chai bungalows in Sairee Beach. Neither Dan nor I had been diving within the last six months, so we were required to do this refresher course which took most of the afternoon (basically like doing our check-out dives all over again). After we finished we were pretty hungry, so went to a Mexican place to have lunch and wait for the females. Every night Crystal sets up a seafood bar-b-q on the ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Tao June 1st 2006

I awoke just before docking, and got my things together before barging my way out onto the jetty and straight through the touts to the town beyond. I found a place to stay and a place to dive - the two most important things! I have wanted to do some specialty courses for a while - Enriched Air and Deep Diving and decided that with Ko Tao being a famous place to learn that this would be where I would do these courses. Of course the flip side is that that meant spending all day in the classroom.... I had forgotten her cheesy, poor quality and generally crap the PADI videos are, but I was soon reminded. My breakfast pork steamed bun kept me running until lunch - Tom Yum with seafood. For those who have ... read more

Greetings gang, Sorry no pictures as yet but everything seems to be going well. The bar's been abit slow at late but with the World Cup around the corner things will pick up.I have loads of ideas which will soon be put into practice.Having my experiance in bar and restaurants has helped and now i'm trying to plan a promotion that should blow the rest out the water and leave one bar drowning. We've been having problems with this dickhead next door who likes to copy other people's work.Nevermind enough of me banging on,not much has been happening.I started a new school 3 weeks ago and it's going well although my throat is sore every Friday from shouting too much.Other then that I've been really lazy and sleeping every moment I get. Anyway guys I'll extend this when ... read more
