Hello everyone! I hope everyone is starting to get into the Christmas mood. I am getting in the mood in Jerusalem as all the lights are up and quite often groups of people burst into Christmas songs in the churches which is nice to hear. Since writing last, I went to Mary's tomb which was really good. It was in a massive church and I had it (and the tomb) all to myself. It was next to the church of Getheme - which is where Jesus went to pray after the Last Supper and got arrested. Again I had that to myself and so that was good too. I then found the energy to walk up the biggest mountain in Jerusalem (Mt. Olive). Along the way I went to two more churches which were stunning (see ... read more

Hello Everyone! Since writing last I left Aqaba in Jordan and went to Petra which was amazing. It was too much to take in for just one day so I decided to stay four days instead. The old city (dating back to 3rd Century BC) had huge tombs and monastries in great condition and I also enjoyed walking up mountains and through the valleys. I met lovely local Bedouin people who live in the caves carved in the mountains. For example on my first day I met Ali, who gave me free bread and sardines for lunch which was great as I had just been eating stale bread on the previous days as the food is expensive unlike in Egypt. I then went with him to feed his goats and had tea with his family in ... read more

Hello Everyone! Sorry about the big delay! And Im also sorry about the bad title - I just couldnt resist. So since writing last, I left Luxor and spent a whopping 11 hours going to Kharga Oasis. Although it was tiring, I sat next to a lovely Egyption family along the way who fed me. Everytime I finished a sandwich, out popped a bigger and better one. It was heaven. I then went to Dahkla Oasis the following day - where I spent a couple of days there. On the first day I decided to head towards the beautiful limestone mountains..but they were a lot further away than they looked. Anyway I ended up walking many miles through quaint little towns and finally had tea at a police check point before heading back to town. The ... read more

Hello everyone! Thanks for all the great comments! Since writing last I got a train to Aswan and found another hotel for just a pound a night which was good. I then walked down the Nile and was hassled by near enough everyone (it was worse than in Luxor) - but the view over to the Elephantine island and the other bank (with sand dunes) made up for it. I finally got to the end of my stroll and met a nice Nubian hassler Abas (looked like a younger version of Bob Marley) who became a good friend over the next few days. The next day I went across to the other side by ferry and walked along the desert which was lovely and peaceful. I then came back and Abas kindly offered to show me ... read more

Hello everyone! Thanks for all the wonderful comments and its lovely to hear from a Jimmy too (and I look forward to your stories). I would like to congratulate Bobby on winning the no prize quiz - as I was a 23 year old, married Geography teacher from Fiji (no ones heard of it yet)!! Great Bobbys think alike. Since writing last I have crossed over the Nile by local ferry many times which has been a good but short ride. The first time I went to the West Bank I wasnt sure what to visit and a kind English man said his tour group were going to Habu Temple and offered me a lift there and so thats where I went! It was really lovely because unlike the other temples on the East Bank - ... read more

Hello everyone! Let me first of all say thanks for all the great comments! Since writing last, I left Alexandria and headed to Port Said which was great for so many reasons! Not only did it have a cheap yet wonderful room at just 2.10, it had a fanstastic supermarket. Ok it wasnt a Tesco but it was a start. Plus I wasn't hassled at all there. And I met a Richard Branson lookalike who took me under his wing. Haha Only Joking!! It was just so peaceful in Port Said. I walked along the Suez Canal to the Suez Canal House - where I was found and then escorted out by the Police!?! Oops. The next day I went to the local beach, which wasn't much to look at and had great fun watching people ... read more

Hello everyone! I thought I'd write again as I fancied an hour of sitting in a room with air con! Since writing last, I left hectic Cairo (biggest city in Africa - 18 million) and headed to Alexandria (2nd biggest city in Egypt)! And it started to feel like a holiday with the sea on my doorstep. I had a lovely walk along the coastline on my first day - and I bumped into a Sir Alan Sugar lookalike, you turned out to be my free tour guide for the day (like Jeff from the Cook Island). It was really good as it meant I could go to all these untouris places, like into mosques in the poorer parts, without feeling uncomfortable (see picture). We then walked to the fort (see picture) and then right to ... read more

Hello everyone! I wasn't planning on blogging on this trip, but there was an outcry for pictures so I thought Id do a couple of little blogs so that your (I.e Dad's) desktops can be beautiful! I have now been in Cairo for 4 days and it feels like a lifetime! I can't believe I have till 16th December! The main places Ive been have been the Pyramids in Giza and the Egyption museum. The pyramids were really really good! I managed to get there by the local bus and spent a good 6 hours there taking hundreds of photos of course! Haha. Take a look..... I didnt go in any of the pyramids just because it was too expensive and I wasnt that fussed about it. I will maybe have look in Luxor. The museum ... read more

Hello everyone! Although we didn't have a typical montly question, we did ask about photo recovery suggestions and we would like to congratulate Scott as the winner as he has been a great help! Since writing last, we have been having a great time in Las Vegas. On our first full day, Jean gave us a tour of the local casino (The Redrock Casino) and we had a fab lunch there, whilst playing Keno (but we lost many times). She also showed us around the local Redrock National Park which was breathtakingly beautiful. On the following day, Jean kindly took Bob on a day trip down to LA to try and retrieve the photos from the orignal computer but with no luck. In the meantime, me and Yvonne hit the strip starting at the Mandalay Hotel. ... read more

Hello everyone! Thanks for all your help concerning the photos and we trying Scotts method so hopefully we will find something. Since writing last, we went to the airport in Tahiti and we had a long wait to our 2am flight, but our boredom was put on hold as we saw a big celebrity!! As we were sitting down, Tyra Banks (supermodel/actress/tv host) walked past. We managed to get her autograph and I took a picture when she walked away and then she saw the flash and turned around and smiled. She was very nice and friendly. We arrived in LA the next day and headed to Hollywood Boulevard where our hostel was (opposite the Chineese Theatre) and collapsed as we hadn't slept. We walked along the Boulevard to Paramount Studios & Griffith Park and all ... read more
