This is seriously the first time I have actually been able to sit down and write an email in peace. We have been running around like "gai" with our heads cut off since we got here and I am now at the end of my first day of classes. I'm in "my office hours" right now although I have not been given an office and I just finished my first day ofclasses although I have no real lesson plans. Crazy isn't it? That's Thailand for you. I'm going to try to keep this email short because I am about to run to get a few errands done and people are waiting for me, but Thailand is as HOT as I remember it and it is still as beautiful and crazy as it ever was. Today was ... read more

After a terrible night on the overnight bus (it was full of small cockroaches and had a stinky toilet!), a two hour wait in a nasty restaurant and a pleasant boat trip, we ended up on the Island of Ko Samui. We decided that we would go to Lamai beach on the East Coast. We checked into our resort and were upgraded to an air con - great! We checked out the pool, which was more or less on the beach, the sea was as warm as bath water and that clear that you could see all the yellow and black striped fishes at our feet. The temptation got to much for Ollie and he couldn't resist it anymore so he went for his first oil massage - when he got back (i had a snooze) ... read more

We Spent the entire day at one mall, it was so nuts it was like a rabbit warren of tiny we markets in one mall. Every corner you turned, for about 6 levels was covered in shops. We went to Night Bazzar market, got a nice foot massage there very hot, but lots of cool mordern western things for decorating your house. ... read more

Well we’ve been on Koh Phi Phi for around a week now and you know what I said about the weather being not too great? Well we’ve had about 4 scorchers in a row now so we’re happy topping up our tans! Phi Phi is really expensive and it’s low season at the moment so I’d hate to think what it would be like in the high season! We ended up finding a room for 4oo baht, and that includes a toilet with a flush AND hot water!! For those of you that don’t know, that is serious luxury over here, and for a bargain price! We’re not in a resort, it’s literally a room that somebody is renting. We’re right in the Thai quarter of the village and we have lovely views of brick walls, ... read more

Hiya everyone!! Great to hear from you all as always and we hope you all had a great bank holiday weekend. Well we left Lop Buri in one piece despite another monkey incident which resulted in Bobby running and screaming into a shop, nearly knocking the manaqin over and screaming again at the sight of a dog in the shop which she thought was another monkey?!?! We went to Sukhothai and we had our first proper cooked meal in that guest house. Our room had a TV and so we enjoyed watching Thai TV in the evenings. We also had a nice little pet lizzard our two days there in our bathroom called 'Lobby the Lizzard" but I think I killed him acccidently on our last day with the bug spray. In Sukhothai we went to ... read more

This is not a long entry, just adding it for the shots. I went back to Patong for a last day on the beach and built a massive Sandcastle. (Nick, imagine my horror at not having Taz, Leon and Dan with me for cover! People knew I was building it because I WANTED TO.) Anyway, I built this massive Egypt themed thing and became a beach celebrity, all the tourists, mostly Korean, wanted pictures of the castle but not just the castle, them WITH ME and the castle. It was fun. And then, the one day I do not lug my Nikons with me, I get the most incredible sunset -- snapped these shots with my little IXUS. ... read more

blog by Bronia "Sawadeeka/krap" ("hello") from Thailand - formerly known as Siam. Well we are fully into Thailand and the Thai culture now. Our guide Lucky recently gave us Thai names for fun - Bronia's is "Pai Lin" meaning a "Thai red ruby" and Dave's is "Ma-nop" which means... wait for it.... "handsome one/good angel" - don't know what went wrong there !! Our last blog left you in the north of Thailand in Umphang where we had taken you on a whirlwind tour of our first two weeks with our Real Gap volunteer group. Taking a 12hr overnight bus to from Mae Sot to Bangkok's main bus station and arriving bleary eyed and shattered at the bus station at 4:30am we got back into our standard group touring vans (see pic) to take us the ... read more

well we have not been to the internet in over a week. A crazy week it has been. We took the minibus to Suratani on the Gulf side of the peninsula to catch a ferry to Ko Samui. It was pouring down rain in Suratani and we were taking our chances with the sun on the islands, but we did not want to spend a nite in the armpit town. We booked a hotel, ferry and train ride back to Bangkok from the island and later discovered we were scammed on everything. Everything they told us was a lie. First lie, öh you will be on the island eating dinner by 7:30! After a tuktuk ride to the bus station, a bus ride for an hour, a ferry ride for 2 hours, a taxi ride for ... read more

www.PhuketVacationApartments.com After my motorcycle accident I spent a glorious week at Club Lersuang through Phuket Vacation Apartments. I could not have found a nicer place to recuperate. Just down the road from the famous Amanpuri resort, the apartments (which are more like hotel living) are a brief walk away from Surin Beach -- a nice, quite beach without all the noise and vendors of Patong and other similar places. (Also, in the middle of the beach, there is a little shack that sells a mean fruit-salad!) The apartments themselves (PhuketVacationApartments.com have two in the complex) are very well appointed two bedroom places that are well worth the money. There are luxuries like room service, TV and DVD (and a small library of movies) and wireless internet access in the room. The pool is heavenly and the ... read more
