So it was time to farewell Vietnam, finally, and head to Thailand for a short 10 days. After an hour and a half delay in Vietnam we finally arrived in Bangkok. I think Vietnam just didnt want us to leave!!! We didn't plan to stay long in Bangkok so the next day we hopped on what seemed like a luxury bus compared to Vietnam and headed south. Our destination was Hua Hin, about 2 hours south of Bangkok. We were to stay with Daves family friend Doug and his Wife Khun Chonchica (a.k.a Poo). it was a little adventure to find his house as the bus arrived early and doug was not there to meet us. So we went of on a little walk in the rain and managed to trudge our way to their lovely ... read more

So since my family was finsished with the beach we decided to give them one day of inland adventure. Emily arranged a nice day trip to Kanchanaburi where Rachel and I spent a week last year. We started out at the Erawan Waterfalls, which is one of the most spectacular places (of where I've been) in the world. It is in the jungle and once you arrive it is like something from a movie. These crystal clear pools form after fall after fall with lots of fish swimming around. There are 7 major pools but the whole thing is stunning b/c there are so many stops in the river. Last year we spent a lot of time taking pictures and swimming but didn't make it to all the stops. So this time I ditched my family ... read more

Back at the hotel we got our bags off the concierge, and seeing as how we'd already had to check out we went to the fitness centre to shower and repack our bags before our flight. After that we had dinner and sampled local beer, that was me, delicious, they sold it everywhere. Mum tried the local whiskey, which she deemed quite palatable. Onto another bus and off to the airport. After getting on our delayed airplane, sorry jumbo jet, we were cheerfully informed by the luckily secluded captain that we were unable to have air conditioning for our twelve hour long flight, as it wasn't working. Luckily mum got to sit next to a charming chappy from Scotland who was wearing a tweed coat, and didn't believe in deoderant. At least she was entertained the ... read more

hello there, just to let you know there are more photos on the previous entry, as we've just uploaded more, so enjoy! Ok, so after leaving the calm, quiet and subdued island of koh tao, we ventured forth to a new island, ko phangnan. Now we didnt really know much about it, and we had no idea where to go when we got there, it was all very chaotic and lots of taxi people hassling us, eventually we left the crowd of people found a little bar, had a sprite and decided to head towards haad rin. we expected it to be very loud and we thought we werent going to like it much but we decideed that it was one of those places that when your down that way you should really go see it ... read more

Welcome to the Land of Smiles, as Thailand is affectionately called. When we were in Penang (Malyasia), we got a bit antsy to cross over the border into Thailand and arranged to take a minibus for the 9+ hour trip to Krabi, in Thailand. Three minibuses, a ferry and 12 hours later, we arrived at our destination, Railay Beach. Railay Beach When we first started planning this trip, Thailand was one of the countries that was a must see and in particular, we had dreamed about the Thai beaches. We'd seen pics from friends who had been in the islands and knew we wanted to spend quite a bit of time in the islands. We've spent this first week on the Andaman Coast (the west coast) and it is full of the most spectacular scenery ever. ... read more

Day 1. Well, it's day one of our long awaited trip to the U.K, and because we've never been overseas before we decided to prolong our stopover in Thailand for a couple of days. What an experience!! We arrived in Bangkok at about midnight, and were met by a charming Thai man who spoke only enough english to direct us to a van which would take us to the hotel. On arrival at the hotel, oh my god, luxury is not the word!! The porter took our luggage and we were directed up to reception where we recieved a complimentary glass of an extremely nasty liquid which looked much prettier than it tasted. After that it was straight up to our room, and off to sleep. Day 2. After finishing a huge buffet breakfast where we ... read more

Goodbye Kho Tao I completed my final two dives, both on new sites, before grabbing a spicy papaya salad for lunch. It was from the grimiest stall ever, but the lady working it was friendly, so I thought what the hell. Nothing like diahorrea to help a long journey... although thankfully this was not the case. I said goodbye to Kho Tao, and borded the ferry to the promised land. Well, the mainland at least. Thai Sleeper Trains I slept for most of the journey from Kho Tao to Chumporn in spite of the freezing aircon and the hard plastic seats. The smell of drying (and perhaps rotting) fish roused me to semi consciousness - Chumporn is literally rammed with fishing boats. I had several hours to kill before my train so I whiled my time ... read more
