Straight after finishing my time on the ranch in Oz I returned to Brisbane (where I found a much nicer hostel than where I was put before) to spend the night before a fourteen hour commute to Bangkok. A swift internal flight between Brisbane and Sydney, then non-stop for nine hours from Sydney to Bangkok. I must be racking up some serious air miles by now, maybe when I have some time on my hands I'll work out how many! Anyway, I wanted to see a couple of the islands (among other things, but you'll have to keep checking back to find out what these are!) and I heard the most popular islands like Koh Samui and Koh Phanagn have become completely ruined by tourism (very believeable). I decided to try Koh Samet first. Most of ... read more

So I am back on Koh Tao... This time it's a lot different, new people, new places, and just a whole different feeling from last year. We did some fun dives. I got a little better with my underwater camera. And we also had fun bowling, mini golfing, and renting scooters and all of us going around the island in our Chase Scooter Gang.... read more

Hello everyone and we would like to say a quick thank you for the comments from the aunties and Keith. We have tried to meet your picture demands in the little time possibe (see pictures) and we hope they will do for now.. Also we would like to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNTIE PAT and we hope you have a great party!! Save us some birthday cake. Today we went to Mae Taeng Valley and went on an elephant in the countryside. We rode through rivers and up a mountain which was great fun (see pictures) even though it gave me a bit of travel sickness. In total we went on six forms of transport today which is a record (big bus, mini van, moped, motorcycle taxi, elephant, walking). Yes we are trouser girls but my main ... read more

After being rudely awaken by my alarm I set out to try and find out what thai people have for breakfast. The question "what do Thai people have for breakfast?" certainly confused the girl at the small cafe I was sat in, and eventually she bought me a plate of rice topped with chicken, and option spicy sauce. Also I got bought an insanely bitter cup of coffee, and I didnt even realise it was supposed to be white until I held it up to the light! The two morning dives signified the completion of my nitrox course, as well as one of the dives for my deep course. The first dive was at the nice Chumporn pinnacles where we droipped straight down to 30 m before heading up to look at the vast amounts of ... read more

We arrived in Ko Pha Ngan and decided to head to Chaloklum, this was the closest place to our next location bottle beach which could only be reached by boat. We decided to stay in Chaloklum though because it was so cheap (250 baht a night, about 3 pounds - bargain!). The bungalow we stayed in was small but was right on the beach front, the bathroom was what made us choose this bungalow, basically there was no roof on it! Check out the pic of Ollie demonstarting having a shower (boy did he need it - pongo!!) We relaxed here for 3 days just swinging in the hammocks and reading our books. We had our first viewing of a big cockroach, luckily it was on the other side of the bug net! On the last ... read more

Dan and I got up early, grabbed our gear, and headed over to the main Crystal Resort. Had a pretty good couple of morning dives, then back to Crystal to log our dives. Dan and I rented motorbikes and went back to O’Chai. Dan took a nap and Jennifer, Felicia and I went over to Sunsetburi Resort to use the pool. Fe and I got massages—both masseuses were trained at Wat Po Massage School, and it was evident. It was the best Thai massage that Felicia ever had. Late that afternoon we all rode down to the southern end of the island, crawled around on the rocks, and watched the sun setting. Dan started to feel no-so-good, so we returned to O’Chai, where he proceeded to get sick. We went to the pharmacy to get some ... read more

We organised a tour to "The Beach" by speed boat. It was an excellent day, we were taking to a really nice marina where we caught our speed boat. A drivers name was Micheal Jackson. We swam at the cove or where the beach was filmed. Beautiful day, lovely water. We moved on to other coves and isaland which where just as beautful as the next. Stopping to jump in the water to cool off. Stopped for an hour for some snorklling, Rachael first in. They throw bread in the water which attracts these tropical fish, very cool. The final beach was ega island which was like less than 1km wide, and had all these lovely deck chairs and white sad and lovely little beaches for swimming or snorkling. You couldn't help eat the great food ... read more

Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Bangkok June 2nd 2006

Bangkok was a great relief after Delhi - everything so easy, and people so friendly - well, we were a little wary of the constant cacophany of cries "HEELLLOOOOOOO MAASSSAAAAAGEE" !!. After a couple of days acquainting ourselves with the fleshpots of the city (courtesy of Enda and his ragtag posse!), we set off for Koh Samet for some beach time (having met up with Aileen who was unfairly looking very tanned compared to my pasty skin!). Despite being caught there during a thunderstorm and overcast skies, I still managed to get completely burnt raw, and it's getting to the stage where we're afraid to use a flash on the camera for fear of UV exposure! Visiting the Snake Farm, which is part of the Red Cross as it's involved with developing anti-venom, was great fun ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Lanta June 2nd 2006

So much has happened since I last wrote, it's hard to keep up. I know I have to post these things more frequently, but lately it's been so busy and I also like to have some good photos to put on here before posting. Luckily, we went to Ko Lanta, an island in the Krabi province of Thailand, last weekend and we got some pictures there. This was our 3rd time to the Krabi Province, which is on the West coast of Thailand on the Andaman sea, but our first time to Ko Lanta. Despite this being the rainy season, we had beautiful weather there. Ko Lanta is extremely quiet and not as developed for tourism as some other places, but has quite a decent sized Thai population with schools and a hospital, though the beaches ... read more
