QUARANTINED OR SELF ISOLATING?

What I should add is that at least MOST tourists are behaving responsibly in that they are not simply continuing to wander and are hunkering down in a single location. That said, most are not employing very stringent distancing and we hear that people are still socialising on the beaches etc... Guessing most of these are.... the young. Reply to this

Quick update, left Turkey on the last but one flight to the UK, everyone was in good spirits given that the UK is struggling with looters and stockpilers. Woolly and I are heading to Wales today to our new home to self isolate and talk to the sheep. Reply to this

Andy and Ali, you have a lot of decisions facing you. As a nurse I will pose a few more thoughts for you to ponder.
My opinion is that in theory you would be safest in the U.K. as they are taking this seriously and self-isolating. Plus you have excellent medical care there if needed.
If you are willing to isolate where you are for an underdetermined amount of time then you are good for now.
You have asked yourself the right question, "what happens in Laos when a situation develops there".
The key is to stay calm. Think this through rationally.
If you move- wash your hands, cleanse everything you can before you touch it. Wear gloves if you can find them. ( a bit over broad but why take the chance) Wear something over your mouth and nose.

Remember: this is spread by droplet. That is why they tell you to keep 6 foot distance. You don't want people coughing, spitting or spraying on you. However, this virus does live on things for a while. hence the gloves and cleaning suggestion.

All the best. MJ Reply to this

We are at home but forced to live isolated more or less. Unfortunately, business is breaking down for us and so far no support by the goverment (it is promised for small companies but will take months till we get something). Having a small family business, we are struggeling to pay the rent and food. So probably due to this virus will cancel our our travel plans for the next time as we financially need to recover somehow..... Reply to this

Nina and Markus, glad you've arrived home healthy and will isolate. We are all going to be in financial recovery and trying to figure out life from here. Good luck and chat soon. Reply to this

We started off self isolating but now its lockdown, May holiday looks cancelled and moved to September . Not sure September will be possible . Only going out for an hour walk in the morning , a trip to the shop for essentials . Very little else open . Not good at the moment . Reply to this

Thank you for your kind words and advice. Yes, we have been employing all good practice (Ali is also a nurse and I am a scientist who works on.... infectious diseases). We are in the fortunate position of not having to run (Ali has calmed) unlike many British nationals who have congregated in Vientiane (he capital) trying desperately to get on planes. However, these are invariably cancelled, indeed the last scheduled flight from Laos to Thailand (all planes are transiting here) was on 27th. These poor souls are now realising that they are locked-in until May 30th (at present) but have placed themselves and others at hugely increased risk by running to the epicentre of the outbreak here and mixing with crowds in their efforts to leave. To make matters worse many hostels etc have closed in the capital. Where we are is a tiny rural village and whilst our presence is accepted (having been in isolation here for two weeks now) they will not accept any new arrivals. Sadly we still have to travel to the nearest town in a few days to extend our visa - hoping that the authorities may recognise that such travel could be avoided if they waiver the necessity. Anyway, there are tens of thousand of individuals in far worse situations than ourselves. All any one can do is wait it out.... Ideally ALONE. Reply to this

I'm glad you are doing well and it sounds like you've made much better decisions than the others. Plus you are following the guidelines which is the key to all of this. Take care and keep all of us updated. We wish you well in isolation. Reply to this

How are the two of you doing? I've read that cases in Florida are about to explode due to the state's decision not to enforce bar closings during Spring Break (as it already happening in Louisiana due to the decision not to cancel Mardi Gras). Reply to this

Our Governor wanted to leave closures to Mayors and local authorities. He was slow to get involved. They Mayors didn't want to forego the spring break money so that influenced their slow decisions. Once it aired on National news they all took a lot of heat and gave in. It took weeks before they closed the public beaches. That happened about a week ago.
We are told to expect a large bump in cases. Now we wait. Reply to this

In response to: Msg #208228 All those Spring Breakers went home to other states, taking the Covod-19 with them. Not ever state and local government made wise decisions. Look what Mardi Gras is doing to New Orleans. Colorado has lock down, but there are so many exceptions it is unenforceable. You are so lucky to have a beach to walk along. Stay safe! Reply to this

Fires, floods...why why why Corona -

In Australia we endured the worst, most extensive, most destructive bushfires in history from June 2019 to February 2020 following up to 10 years of drought. Then the rains came and started filling dams and rivers giving farmers hope. Those rains brought extensive flooding washing away bare topsoil reducing the prospects of recovery and that short lived hope. Meanwhile in December 2019 there was talk of a mysterious virus in Wuhan, China that reached Australia in January 2020...our first death on 1 March...borders closed...country in virtual lockdown. Will it ever end?

We realise we are better off in Oz...24 hours from anywhere now our solace...possibly the best place to be as the virus travels like wildfire around the globe...still raining here so many areas now green after years of brown. Is breaking of years of drought a blessing or a cruel joke? Considering the past year we have had in Oz...hard not to wonder what could possibly be next. Recession or depression? Gotta retain our social distancing and humour or we certainly will have no chance as the waves keep approaching to drench some of us...the unknown being how many will be smashed and the size of the surf. Relax & Enjoy...its gonna be quite a ride. Oz has been known for many years as "The Lucky Country"...at least we can hang onto that.

And as we do...be careful all of you. When will good times return? Together we live...and together we wait. Reply to this
