ATTENTION TRAVELERS: MAKE A LIST AND CHECK IT TWICE
9 years ago, December 28th 2014 No: 1 Msg: #187732
In 2013 several of us were brave enough to make a list of future travel fantasies. Ok so how did you do? Ready to make another list ?
Travel Fantasies & Plans

Looking back on our fantasies that is what it turned out to be.
In 2013 we did go to Cuba, England, Austrai and Iceland but didn't make it to Switzerland.
In 2014 we made it to Ireland but not Yap & Palau, Wales, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuana, or Belarus

We are starting 2015 off with a Caribbean Cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Grand Cayman, Roatan Honduras and Costa Maya Mexico.
We hope to get to Switzerland later in the year.

2016- undecided yet Europe and South America are in the lead.
2017 We've decided on Chile.
2018 - African Safari

Dave and Merry Jo,
I like your plans. May I suggest that you see some of Europe when you visit Switzerland in 2015 and then you can do more of South America when you visit Chile...saves on airfare, but perhaps you don't have time. Anyway, have a great time!
We met our goal to travel the Silk Road (China, Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Lithuiania, Estonia, Finland and England) in Apr/May 2013 and South (Peru, Bolivia, Colombia) and Central America (Panama and Mexico) in May 2014.
As for the future we have completed bookings for 2015 to include:
Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia, and Slovenia in April.
Big Island of Hawaii in October.
Then in 2016:
Cruise including Chile, Argentina, Falkland Islands, Uruguay, and Brazil in March/April.
Walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostello in Sep/Oct.
In early 2017 we cruise 12 islands nations in the Eastern Caribbean to exceed my goal of traveling to 100 countries. Reply to this

This thread makes my feet itchy, specially because Dax and I haven't done any "proper" travelling since Ella was born 2 years ago, as all of our holiday days went to visit family (one of the downsides of being from 2 different countries), so the plans are (as well as visiting Dax's family in Germany at least once a year):

2015: Egypt and Conil (in the South of Spain) for a reunion with some of the friends we made when we were living in the UK

2016: Walk the Camino de Santiago and visit friends in Switzerland

2017: I will become 40 in 2017 (it seems like yesterday I was only 25...) so we are hoping to celebrate it with a tour around Spain visiting all our friends as well as my extended family

Also Dax is about to start a new job in which a lot of travelling is involved, so I am hoping that Ella and I will be able to join him in some destinations as well. Reply to this

Dave and Merry Jo,
If you do end up in Switzerland, do send me a note. We live in Zurich and would love to meet you or help you with your plans 😊

I am inspired to make my own bucket list, so here it goes -
Easter 2015 - still undecided maybe Florence again
June 2015 - camping in Greek islands
Summer 2015 - backpacking in Austrian and French Alps
September 2015 - Annapurna circuit (fingers crossed)
February 2016 - New Zealand
We hope to do at least one of Annapurna or New Zealand this year.
..... after that who knows, probably Iceland one again, and Dolomites in summer of 2016, but now I am just getting greedy!

We can finally add in some "future travel plans" and mean it! Very exciting.

This year, 2015, we're heading to Italy for 2.5 weeks for long-belated honeymoon, planning to visit some friends/hike along the Ligurian coast, plus some food adventures (of course) in Emilia-Romagna. Hopefully will also make it to Maryland for blue-crab season and (maybe) Glacier National Park.

In 2016 I'm still slated to lead a course in Sydney, and so the plan is for Andras to join up afterward for another week or so of adventuring in Australia.

2017 and beyond - TBD! With my new job appointment, I can work pretty much anywhere we have a strong internet connection, so we're thinking of spending a month each winter living somewhere else - suggestions welcome! While we have the most freedom and ability to travel during the winter, all of our top destinations are better visited in the spring/summer, so ... decisions, decisions. Reply to this

Congratulations Stephanie and Andras. This sounds perfect! Happy honeymoon.

If you make it to Maryland while we are still living here we would love to see you again. Reply to this

I'm preparing for my West coast US trip next week! Given the very limited leaves we are entitled to here in the Philippines I'll only be there for a month. I'll also visit my favorite city Vancouver again and take the IELTS test there. Hoping to score 8 but too lazy to study the review book I borrowed. Grammar is not a fun subject. Next year I'll either go to East coast US or Europe. Happy travels ? Reply to this

There are several travel bloggers on the west coast. You should try to meet some of them. Reply to this

Id love to meet some travel bloggers but probably not on this trip. It's too expensive to do anything and go anywhere here! But I love it. It's more different from Canada than I expected. Lovin the farm houses and old villages 😊 Reply to this

This is such an interesting topic. In the previous forum, I had written:

"2013: Explore local areas we have yet to explore in the West -- Monterey Bay, Muir Woods in Autumn, as much hiking as possible amongst the beautiful redwoods, road trip to Grand Canyon, Moab and the like

2014: Explore more of Northwest US -- Oregon, Washington. Maybe escape from mainland US to Hawaii or Mexico.

2015-2017: Peru, Turkey, New Zealand, South Africa . . . and get back into diving -- maybe return to Indonesia or try Mexico or Florida or countless other dive spots."

We did make true a lot of the 2013, 2014 plans come true in terms of local areas (mostly half-day to quick weekend getaways), Oregon and Hawaii, but not quite as far as Mexico.

2015 - continue exploring more of the Northwest Coast in the U.S.A. and maybe even further North to Canada. Get out of the states -- likely to the UK. There has been talk, similar to Stephanie and Andreas, about a long-due honeymoon. I joke we had a pre-moon.

2015-2016 - Get out to a new country -- Turkey? New Zealand? Argentina? Any direction will do. We'll see what happens!

Look forward to hearing everyone's follow-up adventures. Hope the fantasies come true and that the plans are satisfied. ;-) Reply to this

I love making the list 5 or 6 years in advance and then going back to see how much of it came true or remembering why we decided to go other places! Fun, fun, fun. Reply to this

This summer we're thinking of Greece - an island somewhere to chill out. Then next February when we finish this contract we are thinking if Egypt or Mexico, before we move to a new country. Could be somewhere we've been before like Thailand, or somewhere new like Morocco. Wherever it is it will open up a load of new places to visit, Reply to this

I love to travel but I am afraid that work gets in the way and it is also needed to fulfil my travel dreams as I require money. Since I got the bug in 2005 I have managed an overseas trip every 2 years and something local the year in between. Europe/UK/Ireland has always been on my list and so far have managed to get to some of the Eastern countries in Europe. Russia has always been high on the list but after flying out of Europe on a Malaysian flight the same day as the air disaster in 2014 it curbed my Russia wishes a little and I have decided on the following.
2013 Europe, Rome and Isle of Man - done
2014 Ireland - done
2014 Tasmania - done
2015 New Guinea - done
2016 Ireland Walking 500klm - to do
2018 Eastern Europe - probably Coatia areas - on the travel list
I still want to do Russia and other parts of Europe, Camino track and some other walks in Tasmania and NZ. All this has to achieved before I retire in 2020 and while I have my health.

If you have a dream or a wish go ahead and follow it, do not put it off. Reply to this
