I am desperate to go away for Christmas and New Year to Thailand. I was thinking of staying on Koh Tao as its not as commercial and tourist packed as Samui/Phangnan/PhiPhi but still will have a party vibe. I didnt want to spend loads of accommodation either, but I suspect thats going to be hard to dodge.

Can anyone suggest a hotel to stay at on Koh Tao? Or prehaps a similar island to stay on for 2 weeks?

I am starting to think I should just go all out and go to Haad Rin on Koh Phangan.... I went to Aus last year for NYE, and was originally going to stay in Melbourne, but thought "I may as well got to Sydney if im here", and am thinking along the same lines for Thailand. FMP will no doubt be the biggest party in Thailand. Reply to this

we thought about doing koh tao or something small on nye last year since we figured koh phangan would be too much for us. we like a party, but being 30 and married, did know if it would be too crazy.

we ended up going since it was the kind of experience we figured wed be sad to miss. FMP was a pretty cool place to be for nye. and even though the party wasnt the best party ive been to in my life, i was so glad to have had the experience.

i would recommend just doing phangan. Reply to this

you will find somewhere i expect, but it will be at the very north of the island, and yes, it will be fairly expensive. theres not many places under 1000baht a night.

i decided not to go this year as i left it too late to book/organise it all. and will just stay on Samui and get a boat to Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party in February.
