droptheworld.com have updated their site and the system to create books from travel blogs. Let us know if you have any feedback on the new version.

A little history of droptheworld.com - Brian (TravelGoon) and Alan (AlanZ) joined travel blog back in 2005 and travelled for nearly 2 years, back home from their trip they were looking for a way to get a high quality print versions of their blogs - our print outs weren't quite good enough to have pride of place on the coffee table - there wasn't anything out there so started work on droptheworld.com

Let us know if you've had a good experience with the books prior to the new software release as well.

I must admit, I have never tried this, but it would be fantastic to have a book of photos and blogs sitting conveniently on a coffee table when visitors arrive.

Here are the changes that have been made:

once your book is created, you'll be able to edit its pages directly. You'll also notice that many more design options are available and you have more control over the fonts, colors, and other styles in your book.

I too would love to read reports from anyone who has used this service. Reply to this

Dave and I love this product. After our around the world adventure we decided to use droptheworld to publish our blogs in a book. We are extremely happy with the product and will use them again in the future.

You can cut and paste your blogs into their format quickly. You do have to re-download all of your photos. This took time because if I remember correctly we had nearly 1,000 photos in the book. I would go look at the book and give you more specific details but the books are currently at my sisters house in another state.
The advantage of having to download the photos into their system is you can add additional photos that you did not use when you published your blog, you can take some out that you have decided that you do not like and you can change the captions. Again, this took some time but it was well worth it.

They have a variety of covers, colors, index pages, font and the like.

Once you have everything set you are able to go in and view each page. At the time we started the project I did not love the page layout and contacted Brian because I wanted to edit individual pages. At the time their system did not allow that but Brian told me if I waited three or four months they would have the system updated and I could alter each page. Well-- four months turned into six months turned into nine months.....and so on. We waited about eighteen months I think, my friend Brian can confirm. We emailed frequently.Brian and Alan are very nice and good about answering questions.
Any way, we grew tired of waiting and published.

We are happy with the finished product. Before we published the changes I would have made would have been to decrease the amount of white space in the book. I felt there was a lot of wasted space. Once I received the books it looked much nicer than I expected. There are some pages where the white space has added to the depth and dimension for viewing.

It is possible that I would have crammed too much in and made it looked cluttered looking.

We selected the hard bound book and it is fantastic. Sturdy and easy to flip through. Our family has enjoyed looking at our pictures and re-reading pieces of the blogs. We love tripping down memory lane.

We would highly recommend publishing through droptheworld

We actually printed two books. One for Asia and one for NZ & OZ. Because we printed so many photos they would not fit into one book. There is a size limit and we were trying to exceed it. We have the same cover for both and it is volume one and volume two.

I am excited to hear the upgrades have completed and will give some thought to publishing a third book.

They are nice people.
They produce a quality product.
Once you hit the final submit button it only takes a few days to receive your books!

Please let me know if you have any specific questions. We will be happy to answer them.

Agree it is a fantastic website, however I have not been able to get into my half completed blog to book due to the site being down to redesign BUT still cant get in there!
Do you know if this is a current problem and when it will be resolved?
Regards

I've published our blog once already using Blog to Book and really liked the result. However, with the new version I noticed it removed all of my italics (which I use a lot for humor and it dimishes the effect quite a bit) as well as randomly removed apostrophes. So a bit of editing is required for those who re-publish. Reply to this
