Or if we should spend the 13 days else were...I have looked into laos? would it be save for 2 females to travel there alone?

You used to be able to extend the 60 day tourist visa at an immigration office in country for a further 30 days. Check with the consol in your own country. Another way to extend it is simply to do a border run - i.e. cross the border into Laos or Cambodia and come straight back. You would get an additional 15 days by doing this.

Laos is a lovely country and a popular one on the backpacker trail so I can't see why it would not be safe for women travelling alone. It's an easy and common route to cross from Thailand into Laos, do an overnight boat journey along the Mekong to Luang Prabang, via Vang Vien to Vientiene and then back into Thailand. Reply to this

What country passport will you be traveling with?

Different countries means different rules for entering Thailand.

After you get the 60 days you could even go to Malaysia as another choice of country for a visit.

If you fly back into Thailand (FLY) and you are from one of the countries on the below list you will get 30 days free entry. Just work the numbers so that the first 59 days is used up before you leave then visit a second country on the 60th day.

Fly back to Thailand and plan on using the free 30 days to meet up with your departure. You will also need visa or research what visas are needed for Laos or Cambodia. Malaysia has very liberal entry requirements. If you qualify for the free Visa Exemption for Thailand you will most likely be able to enter Malaysia for free.

Flying back to Thailand means 30 days if you qualify but entering by bus, train or walk through an entry point you only get 15 days.

Below expat forum has some specific information on visas for Thailand.

The train from Bangkok goes on down to the bottom of Thailand and on through Malaysia to Singapore. Singapore will be more expensive than Bangkok. Penang Malaysia (near Butterworth) is much cheaper than KL.

Remember if you want the free 30 days, providing you qualify, you must FLY back to Thailand. You could even fly back from Singapore or KL too!
