Me and the fella are hoping to go travelling some time in the near future for roughly 3 months to a few places in asia

thailand, laus, vietnam, malaysia, cambodia etc the usuals really but we\'ve never really done anything like it before!

i know of a few people who are away at the moment which isnt much help to us currently as we need help on trying to find out the best places to go and how much were roughly going to need to look at altogether to put plans into action

i cant really say i have any idea where to start 😞

any tips, websites for good deals on travel/flights and suggestions of places and things to do/see are welcome and just general info on ways you found best to get everything planned and put into perspective

thanks in advance for any help

Hi Candice

Welcome to Travelblog!

A good place to start in the initial planning stages are the Travelblog Asia blogs where you will find lots of stories of people who are or have already travelled this area. You can get ideas on what is good to visit, where to stay and what to do and also what issues to watch out for. Have a browse around the blogs from places you are thinking of visiting. There is also the Travelblog Guide to Independent Travel which will give you lots of things to think about in the planning stages.

South East Asia is a good loop to do. You can start somewhere like Bangkok (which is one of the airports that you would fly into) and then go up North, through Laos, into Vietnam, down through Vietnam, through Cambodia and back into Thailand (or the opposite way). Then you can go South through Thailand into Malaysia and onto Singapore. This route is possible in 3 months.

You can fly some of the big distances as it often works out cheaper. Check out Attitude Travel for details of budget airlines in Asia and where they fly to/from.

As for flights into and out of the region Skyscanner searches the various flight websites to find the best combination of flights by length and price.

Somewhere to start anyway....

Hope this helps

Rough guide have a pretty handy book called rough guide first time asia. Its a great little book that is full of travel advice and stories, pictures to give you ideas, help on visa's and budgets, and on what to bring etc, plus about a 5 page snapshot of d highlights of each country. I wanted to spend 7 months in asia and with d help of this book decided on 1month nepal, 2 months india, 2weeks malaysia, 1month thailand, 2weeks laos, 2weeks cambodia, 1month vietnam.

My advice would be not to try and see too much and concentrate on countries for a good length of time, like a month in thailand seems perfect to me giving you plenty of rest days and time to see a few different parts of d country.

The first post is a good idea. Thailand laos vietnam cambodia thailand malaysia in 3 months is well doable:-) have a blast!
