Rental of scooters in Vietnam

Hi my brother and I will be traveling to Vietnam in April 2011

I have been looking at hiring a scooter for 17 days and there is mixed information in relation to the passports
I don't like the idea of leaving my passport as security but could anybody tell me if a photocopy was enough to hire the bikes ?

If you have rented a bike I would love to hear if your passports were required

Hi,

We didn't hire bikes for the long term and rented all of them through the hostels we were staying in but I doubt that you can leave your passport with the company as security because you will be required to hand it over everytime you check in to a hotel. I suppose you could try a photocopy of the details for accommodation but, like you, I wouldn't want to hand over my passport and leave it there for 17 days.

Sorry I can't be more helpful Reply to this
