I'm in Ubud at the moment and wanted to check out Kuta and hopefully get to do a bit of surfing before leaving Bali and moving on to Java Island. Now I realize it's HIGH SEASON and it sucks but EVERYTHING I've found on hostel sites is completely out of my budget. Is there anywhere, even large dorms is fine, that someone can suggest for a reasonable backpacking price? If not I guess I'll have to move on. Thanks. Reply to this

Hi Danny347,
Just get a bus up to Kuta from Ubud and walk around the Poppies 2 area not far from the Monument to the Bali Bomb victims and you should be able to find cheap accomodation for about 80,000 rupiah per night.
Ronta Bungalows are popular and you might be lucky enough to get a room there.
Good luck and have a great time.

All is good, actually found a place for about that price on poppies 1 and it includes a little breakfast so not bad. Did some surfing today too, seems like I might be a natural at it. Reply to this

avoid Huta its as bad as Briton in the Uk or Benidorm , torremolinus or torrevieja in spain
its not Bali
go south or north for the real thing and if you are into the surfing then go really south
its wild

I would head up towards Symenyak myself and if you can get in the Royal Kamala best deal for a nice Bali hotel.

I allways stay at the Listari Homestay in Sanur Beach. but no surfing there but very nice place.

For Surfing I understand Ulawauto misspelled I am sure is the place to go or further north from Kuta Which is very crowed and you might as well be in Pattaya.
