I'm just looking for a small moderate priced hotel, that's clean, quite and off the beaten path in or around Manila with a good restaurant close. I plan on spending a couple days in Manila. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hello my friend.

We are currently in the Philippines and stoped in Manilia just a few days ago. We stayed in a hotel called Stone House in Malate. Its clean and cheap and also comes with satalite TV and is in a great location. Doubles are 550p and singles are 300p. If you are coming from Pasay a taxi to Malate should cost you about 150p in rush hour or 100p when not so busy.

Hope that helps you.

I have used the Stone House at 1529 A. Mabini in the Ermita section of Manila a couple times. My prices for a room with air was a little higher. The price of a smaller room with air was 1000 pesos. They have a slightly larger room with air also. A/C rooms had color TV, hot water and private toilet/shower. They do have some fan only rooms and dorm rooms too. Breakfast wasn't too bad and priced okay. You can also get cheap meals at McDonalds too.

Not far from the Stone House is the Robinson Mall with lots of restaurants and a food court. Around the corner on Padre Faura is a pub called the G Point which has some daily specials on meals and drinks. G Point had an "all you can eat buffet" week days (at least in October it was.) Short walk to the MRT. Supermarkets and Seven Eleven stores available in Ermita.

There is a Friendly's Guest House that is also in that Ermita area. I did not think it was as good as the Stone House. Also in this area is the Tropical Mansion Hotel and the Midtown Inn.

Mabini Pension is just down from the Stone House and they have dorm and fan only rooms. Rooms street side will be noisy because of jeepney traffic. Rooms with air are quieter because you have the windows closed!

From the airport they have a new taxi service - the Yellow Taxi! A little higher than a regular taxi but half the price of the Airport Taxi. it is a meter taxi - this Yellow Meter Taxi starts at 70 peso and you pay what the meter says at the hotel. Very reliable and the taxis have to be in good shape. In the city when you take a taxi insist on the meter only and the fare will be cheaper. In the city the fare starts at 35 pesos (October was the last time I used one.) New Mall of Asia is on Roxas Blvd is worth a look just to say you have been there. But the Robinson Mall, to me, is easier to navigate.

Good luck.

hi im from the philippines. metro manila is a huge metropolis made out of many cities. most tourists go to ermita in manila, which is the old capital. mainly because its cheap. but its not the safest place. it is also one of the dirtiest and most polluted. locals know that the best places to stay in are in makati, Libis and Taguig. they are a little more expensive but youll feel a lot safer and youll have better memories of my country. better yet dont stay in metro manila at all. go to the suburbs like Tagaytay. its a lovely place with a beautiful weather. just and hour drive from the city. its where people from the city go to chill. its got lots and lots of restaurants and hotels. and its got cheap hotels too like the ones in ermita Reply to this

Just one last update to my stay at the StoneHouse B&B in Quezon. I had made reservations for three days and ended up staying for 5. The room was just what I had wanted, small and comfortable. The staff were very polite and helpful. I took the Victory liner from Pasay to Angeles City for P132. and am now camped at the Woodland Park Hotel. It's a little more than I wanted to pay P1330 per day for a week, but the pool and staff are excellent, and the rooms are very clean and quite. It's way off the beaten path and I highly recommend it for families and anyone who just wants a relaxing stay in Angeles. Probably one of the nicest pools in Angeles. Magandang Araw Reply to this

If you are still in Angeles check out the America Hotel on Fields Avenue. Maybe you can stay there on your next trip to the Philippines. I have stayed there maybe 6 times over the past 10 years. It is a little dated but I found the staff friendly and it was convenient to other places on Fields avenue. They had safety boxes for valuables, arranged tours, neat fish tanks, a pool and okay cheap restaurant. (In cheap places in the Philippines I always purchase a couple light bulbs and change them for the 10 watt bulbs you may find in your room. I like to read in my down time and appreciate a little more light.)

Check out Margarita Station on Fields. Food is okay, daily food and drink specials. Internet shop, laundry and money changer too!

Walk over to the SM Mall at Angeles near Clark front gate. Check out a men's room - no seats on the toilets! I don't know why, perhaps they are in demand by the local citizens!

Good luck.
