it seems like i get a lot of hate. maybe it isnt a good idea, but i like to make them viewable to the public. i pretty much got the standard "you cant spell" and that i am a "retard". i was told im a bitch because i overall had a good experience in france with meeting people with the exception of a few people (i even stated in a blog how helpful most people are here). this girl was like "i will have you know i didnt meet a rude person there".... jesus. i seriously wonder how on here this girl found me and if she ever says something not mean and personal to anyone else.
Reply to this most people in here sem nice to me so i say why let a few bad apples put a funky taste in your mouth this might sound like a hippy thing to say but just be happy
Reply to this I get a few... depends what you write. I visited one city and had a terrible time, some of the people were really nice, but for the most part, rude, overcrowded with terrible terrible traffic. I put down about an equal number of positive and negative experiences down... ended up summing the place up as a "dump" - harsh but in my opinion fair.
The comments from the locals have been incredible 😉 - and they wonder why I thought them rude 😊
I keep them though... even where they get personal.
The random nasty comments that you get via the web - just remember - these people do not know you... delete and forget them... take comments from people you know much more seriously 😊
Reply to this I don't bother printing a lot of comments I get. If they have nothing to say that adds to the blog then I don't see the point in the comment being published. If the comment is making an interesting point I will print it even if it is insulting. But, if they are just 'flaming' for its own sake then I won't print it. The comments that worry me the most though are not those that are mean. Some comments are just plain bizare and odd. Again, I am not printing something that is just plain odd and bizare that I can't understand!
Reply to this Hm... I think putting that disclaimer about spelling on your bio should dissuade ignorant readers from putting nasty remarks about your spelling.
I've gotten a few comments. Some pointed out errors in my blog which I quickly corrected. The only one I was slightly annoyed about was a person pointing out that Turkey was not a third-world country as I had claimed in my blog. I agree that I wasn't being politically correct (but who always is in their blog?). I still hold true to my belief that you can drink tap water in developed countries and not worry about getting sick from consuming food that has local water in it (salad, sauces, etc). So my remedy was to go to wikipedia, find out on wikipedia what the correct label for Turkey was, and I put that up along with the link. Random fact: Turkey is considered a developing nation with "an economy consistency and fairly strongly developing over a longer period" 😊
Reply to this I've had a few nasty ones, some of them probably deserved. But they are more than made up for by the random nice ones you get.
Besides, throughout my travels I don't believe there has been a single point that I am absolutely in control of everything: except when I'm in an internet cafe vetting comments! That is the one point in my life I get to play judge, jury and execution. Bring em on! 😉
p.s Laralee: Turkey is trying to get into the EU so they are currently PARTICULAR sensitive about their economic status!
Reply to this yeah I got one a few months back. This little nerd read my somewhat tongue-in-cheek account of hiking around Chile's National Parks, presumably didn't notice I wasn't taking the whole thing (or myself) too seriously and he wrote "You have to be one of the lamest individuals I've ever met. You may as well just take a photo of yourself holding up a big sign saying look at me! I'm lame!"
Haha, I was actually a little surprised/upset by it at the time but I'm laughing about it right now! I put it down to too much time for him spent infront of his computer with nothing better to do!
Reply to this Reading this I'm suddenly quite happy that random people tend not to leave me comments 😊
Reply to this I left a comment once, about the irony of people who are dirt poor, and how they cannot even pick up the litter around their houses, sheeze, got lamblasted for not understanding 'genuine poverty'. I wasn't expecting someone saying, 'people like you make me sick'...
don't let the haters win....
Reply to this Most of the comments i get are nice, encouraging ones, i've had one nasty ignorant one which i did respond to, the person concerned was clearly picking off points without actually reading and understanding what i'd written. Generally tho' people are supportive.
Reply to this I think that if you get nasty comments you shouldn't really take it personally, as somebody has said before, these people don't know you, and how can you let some random annnoying perosn ruin your life? Never... Whatever they say, if it really is that bad, I'd just ignore it, there are many many lovely shining people in the world, but occasionally you coem across a rotten few, just roll on without them... Anyways, I'm new here, I used to have an acoount but that was ages ago, so Hi to all of you, I hope all my comments are pleasing! Happy travels, and may the sun always shine on you,
Arriana xXx.
Reply to this Everything's been nice on travelblog but I post sometimes on Lonely Planet Thorntree and more often than not on there, you're going to get some totally unprovoked attacks----regardless of subject matter or how nice you're trying to be. It always amazes me how people will say things to you online that they'd never have the balls to say in person...
Reply to this LP - TT - I've been the victim of some vicious flames there in the past as well!
I think some of the trolls on the TT are paid to be nasty by competing travel forums.
Reply to this If I get attacked on TT and I'm in the mood for it, I do have to admit that its sometimes fun to get in a good fight now and then...
Reply to this Slightly off topic but people on TT scare me. They are so rude to people who ask a question. I can see how it can be frustrating to have people ask the same questions over and over again without doing a search first or people trying to get other people to plan their holidays. However there is clearly a nice way to say "have you tried looking on the board already" without biting off poor people's heads. That totally puts me off posting on TT.
having not started my travels yet I haven't had any nasty comments but I think I already said in my first blog that I wouldn't be posting them which should hopefully put people off making them, although probably not.
Also Lauralee a lot of countries are sensitive to the term third world. It's one term that really gets my back up. My parents are from sierra leone which takes poverty into a new level. However despite being classed as third world you can drink the water from the tap 😊
Reply to this You're right about the rudeness issue on TT but I'll say its still one of the best places to get 1st person, up to date travel info. You just have to ignore the jerks or give it back to 'em, depending on your mood at the time...
Reply to this I get a lot of hate comments (not here because I just joined two days ago). I get a lot of nice comments too.
I always speak my mind but I really don't mean to offend anyone. I just want to say the truth. So, I usually delete the comment if it's really insulting and doesn't make sense. Or if it doesn't add value.
Reply to this let me put it this way, you shouldn't really worry about that, when you write a summary of your trips, it's what you think, not what they think, so why bother??? read it, and if it didn't change your mind about your summary of your trip, then laugh about it, that's what I do.....even though you're probably thinking how a 16 year old could know, I've traveled since before I was born, changed schools more than I went shopping, and well by now I don't give a flying dutchman what people think about my experiences, it's how I see it that matters.....lol
Reply to this geeze, i can't believe we haven't got any negative comments. Some of the things we said about some of the places that we went to were not exactly 'nice', but thats the way we felt at the time. Does that just mean that random people don't read our blogs?
/me is just waiting for you all to read my blogs and leave me lots of hatemail to feel better...LOL
Reply to this Just got my first hate-message from a random, and felt miserable. But feeling better now I know I'm not the only one. I've had a few nice from strangers, only one vicious one, so I guess those odds aren't too bad? Why do people think they can accuse you of being pretentious, patronizing or whatever, only to leave a message that embodies these traits, with an extra mean bit at the end?? Mine said ...PS. your dog looks like shit.
WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE????? Why do they bother reading in the first place?
