hi- we are a couple, (late 30's) my 14yr old boy and a friend all travelling together- kiwis-
We are keen to stay in a combination of places- rough it a bit so we can afford some resorts.
Just doing Bangkok (a week -was thinking of the Atlanta Hotel the food sounds great and Kao San is a bit toooo backpackery for my liking- but just off could be cool i like the shopping....) but keen on other suggestions- very keen on a pool to keep my son happy.
Also going to Samui, Phangan and maybe Koh Tao a week in each
Ideally we would like:
waterfront, on a CLEAN beach,
hopefully with some stunning snokelling close
be able to walk to local food ,we like eating street food
some shopping- (beer, markets...) but happy to catch public transport too
a pool in the flasher places
maybe 1/2 the time in under 500 baht per room and the other 1/2 in under/around 2000 baht max per room.
any suggestions? any favourites?
thnaks a million
xxxx

Coconut Beach Bungalows on Koh Pha Ngan might be worth considering.

I stayed there for one night. It is lovely(but not expensive) and nicely isolated but it was not suitable for me and my little daugher because there were a lot of heights and I felt I could not take my eyes off her for a second. They will pick you up from the pier if you are going to stay there. Reply to this

Maybe he is not yet too old to enjoy riding up and down the river on the passenger boat in Bangkok. It is very cheap but makes a nice boat ride to see the life by the river and there is a nice breeze on it to keep you cool in hot weather.

Hi

I never stayed in Koh Pha Ngan but I did stay in 2 wonderful hotels in Koh Samui and Bangkok.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed in the Belair Princess on the Sukhumvik road in Bangkok. We had booked the hotel through our travel agent before we left. You may see reviews for the hotel on Tripadvisor.ie There is a rooftop pool and all the staff are very helpful. Sukhumvit road is great and not too hectic. Not like the Koh san Road.

In Koh Samui we stayed in Centara Villas Samui. Gorgeous resort. You may also see reviews on Tripadvisor.ie
This resort was out of this world and not at all expensive. Food, huts, pool and service was top notch.

Hope this helps
Enjoy your trip!!! Reply to this

Find a place with a pool in Samui, because there ain't no snorkelling or clean beaches left there. Koh Pha Ngan is almost the opposite. Anywhere other that Hat Rin is quiet and clean and has good snorkeling. And is far cheaper than Samui. I stayed at Hat Thien in Pha Ngan and it was awesome. Only a short boat ride to the main market and about 1,000 per day for great accommodation. May be cheaper in the current political climate. Reply to this

koh thien sounds like us, are there many hotel options? , did you have a pool?
the Centara Villas Samui looks a bit pricey for us. on line it was about 7000 per night

Check the guide book and then show up. It looks like there will be a bunch of cancellations and empty hotels, so you should get a great walk-in rate. Reply to this
