Hello one and all...

Myself and my travel partner are traveling for 6 months and heading towards Nepal and Tibet next March and i was hoping for some advise on trekking to the Everest Base Camp. Is it advisable to book the trek pior to departing the UK and is availability of trekking places a concern as in places such as Machu Picchu. Also as we are quite pushed for time where are we best starting from, we will probably be staying in Kathmandu but i've read about flying to and from Lukla to save time - Basically any advise on getting to Base Camp as quickly as possible and obviously at a reasonable price while still treating the guides and porters properly...

Thanks everyone and happy travels...

I did the everest base camp november 04,it took 13 days flying into Lukla which is the best way of doing it if your short on time. You wont really miss anything doing it this way as all the action happens between Lukla and Kalapathar/base camp.I went with a travel company called Nepal Trailblazer who i would recommend and plan to use again on my next trip, their web site is www.nepalhiking.com which is very good. They are excellent value too the trip cost about £480 per person for everything return flight,kathmandu/Lukla,accommadation,meals.
I would book before you go just so you have peace of mind, another good point about nepal trailblazer is that when you book they only ask for a 20% deposit with the remainder payable when you arrive in Kathmandu, they will even come to your hotel to collect it.Also we stayed in The Kathmandu Guest House which has a great atmosphere and recommend basing yourself there.
