Hello, The three muskateers have arrived in a some what cloudy Caracas. Our plane was slightly delayed, but we made our connecting flight in Madrid with about 10 minutes to spare. We would have missed it if we went ahead with Louise´s suggestion of going for a drink! The flight to Caracas was boring and we returned to our student days by swiping a pillow each from the flight. Once we got our bags we got together and decided that we had to play it cool and pretend that we knew where we were going, just so we did not stand out. However, as soon as we walked out of the doors that all went out of the window. We looked like and Louise looked like a rabbit caught in headlights. Eventually we got a taxi ... read more

Taas taalla, mista koko reissu alkoikin. Lennettiin eilen Quitosta pois klassisesti vasyneina, mutta onnellisina. Lauantain river rafting oli niiiiin hauskaa! Aikaisin aamulla lahdettiin joelle, missa ensin kaveltiin laguunille uimaan. Rauhallisemmissa kohdissa hypattiin veneesta ja annettiin virran vieda, valilla piti noukkia kauemmas ajautuneita ihmisia (eli siis minut :)) veneese... read more

Ok, the capital of this country is ABSOLUTELY INSANE. Seriously, it may be because I haven´t spent a lot of time in a city sooo large, but I just felt completely lost and confused. Haha, it wasn´t all bad - the host family that I was staying with was just the most amazing family - a single mother raising her 3 daughters, 16, 7, and 5 in a city where you can´t go out after dark for fear of robbery, kidnapping or assault. Yikes. But she´s doing it so fabulously that when you´re in her 2-bedroom apartment you´d NEVER imagine that you´re in the middle of a crazy city. The official tally is at about 5 million people, but NOBODY believes that... it is actually impossible to count the people, as they´re packed into everywhere and ... read more

Arrived in Caracas last night - after a grueling 17 hours on 3 different planes! Left Vancouver around 7pm on Saturday night, flew to LA, and then to San Jose, Costa Rica. Met the most amazing couple on the plane from SJ to Caracas... the man is an oil industry worker, and his wife is a stay-at-home mom with 4 kids between 11 and 18. They were super interested in chatting (and super interesting as well), and I learned copious amounts of random stuff about Venezuela from them. Actually, they were so incredible that they offered me a ride from the airport to where im staying in Caracas (about an hour if the roads are good, and AT LEAST 2 hours if they're not). Unfortunately, they were not. It took almost three hours of shitty traffic ... read more

We traveled from Cartagena to Santa Marta,Columbia. We stayed there for 4 nights, Mike went scuba diving one day and we went to Tayrona National Park. The park was beautiful, it was a 45 minute hike through the jungle to get to the beaches. The beaches were untouched, there were no buildings and hardly any people, just a few tourists and fishermen. It was probably the prettiest beach that we have been to. From there we took an 18 hour bus ride to Caracas, Venezuela, which is the capital. This city really is not very nice but we had to come here to get a visa to go to Brazil and go to some airline offices to try and figure out buying a round the world ticket. We came across a website called hospitalityclub.com, which is ... read more

Hey everyone! This is just the first of MANY entries that I'll be adding to my new blog while I'm in South America. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on where I'll be going, how long I'll be going for, who I'll be going with, and what I'll be doing. If you ever need to get a hold of me, you can either post here at the bottom of the page, or you can email me at calliehanson@gmail.com. Hopefully I'll be able to access the internet at least a few times a month, so it shouldn't be long until I respond to you after I get your message. So - THE PLAN *Flight booked - Arrive in Caracas, Venezuela 3:30pm on November 12th, approximately 17 hours after I leave Vancouver. I'll stay ... read more

After leaving Utila I got back to Costa Rica, 3 travelling days later... I had to spend another few days in San Jose, which is not the greatest place to spend time in Costa Rica.. But I stayed at Casa del Parque and had a great time with Federico and his family, as always. It's always nice to be here, to have a place to come to where you feel like home. I recommend everyone travelling in Costa Rica to stay there!! Check out www.hostelcasadelparque.com Unfortunately all my San Jose photos has miraculously disappeared.. In case they turn up again they will be up quickly! In San Jose I got a flight ticket to Caracas where I was going to visit Alberto!! Alberto was an exchange student in Sweden and always talked about how beautiful Venezuela ... read more

Hallo world, Welcome to the people newly connected to this blog! So Venezuela it is this time! After just two weeks in Germany, unpacking my Russia luggage and extreme shopping for Venezuela, saying ‘hallo’ to old friends and good bye at the same time, spending some evenings in a good friends pub and enjoying my Mom’s cooking I left my tiny, calm hometown once again to get to know new parts of the world. First stop was Warsaw, where I attended the International Congress of AIESEC from 22nd of August till 3rd of September. 550 students from all over the world, workshops from 9:00 am till 11:00 pm + meetings afterwards and wild regional parties until early morning… I think there is not much more I can say! Amazing! And I finally met the first of ... read more
