Well, the truth is, i didn´t want to worry anyone, but for the last 3 weeks, my life has been wrapped up in a medical issue. A year ago i had an abnormal mammogram that the doctors have been watching. On May 30, two weeks before my plane left for SA, i had another mammo. the previous condition was unchanged, but there was an additional nodule. Biopsy recommended. (yes, i know mom and dad, you are going to kill me). Being the lovely inhuman, complicated medical system we have in the USA, they told me they couldn´t possible get one in within the remaining 14 days. unbelievable, no? By the way, that´s UCLA. they suck. So had a huge decision on my hands. I,d already booked a non-refundable plane tik, which i´d already spent $350 on ... read more

Everything else is done by the passengers from managing the kitty, shopping and cooking to cleaning the truck. Dear all, trying out this web journal for any friends or family who may be interested in where Ruth and I are in the world. It may be a little long winded at first for you but thats because i am catching up! Starting from the beginning, we obviously went to Venezuela first. Spent a couple of days in Caracas then went to a place called Santa Fe on the south coast, in a van we had hired, where we chilled out and did a couple of dives. It was here we met a guy called Tony, a local guide who wanted to take us to an area known as Los Llanos (pronounced Yanos), the main region of Venezuela for bird watching and safari tours. This chap who seemed very nice and had a portfolio of ... read more

Ahh, faithful blogees, at last I can start reporting on things bike again!!......but no photos to record the more intense moments...and it was intense!...after a few false starts and an aborted visit to the warehouse in the port town....about an hours drive from Caracas...on Tuesday...we got off to a bad start yesterday (Wednesday for us)....our driver arrived at 8am to take us back down to the port place....Guaia(?) .....after about 20 kms the freight guy texts us to say he's in traffic, on his way to Caracas...whaaa?..so we have to return to town.....so we meet with our freight guy, his lawyer chica and a import/customs/hot shot/freight guy and they thrash around for an hour or 2...with brief translations in English for us...its like those movies where there's a huge long stretch of dialogue and the sub-title ... read more

Well, everything a little out of synch, again...the 1st photo is here in cracas then we're back on Isla Margarita...oh well.......so, to begin again...OK, I may have been a little harsh again, last time....I've now seen caracas in a new and better light...yes, fahn dining, bars, clubs, gorgeous women...altho' that's also curious..the thing is that ALL girls are raised to be beauty queens...and they believe it!..so they all have a disconcerting way of putting it all out there.....and altho' beauty is only skin deep and yadda yadda, some of them really shouldn't be putting quite soo much out there!...not that I should be commenting, I'm putting a bit out there too!...and there was the episode with the budgie smugglers!...anyway....and they treat the men so mean!...but then, once they're trapped into marriage and kids and gravity and ... read more

Well it happened, just like they said it would. We were being careful, but none the less it happened. Laura got mugged. Last night going from the airport to the resturant it happened. We are both safe and nobody was hurt. They didnt take her watch, or her money, her room key or her jewelery, her sneakers, passport or credit cards. They took her bug spray. Yes thats right, bug spray, out of everything that she had in her pockets the went for the bug spray. And they left the cap behind. We have no idea how it happened or really where or when it happened, (we can narrow it down, but dont have a specific time or place) but the fact that they took the bug spray and left the cap in her pocket is ... read more

AH! ok so here i am sitting at a little internet cafe in La Guaria Venezuela, the little poverty stricken town, yet they have an internet cafe which is amazing. Its only $.50 for an hr where it is $.40 a minute on the ship. Anyway, I love Venezuela and i think you should all move here. Why you ask? Well, first of all, the gas is cheap and when i mean cheap i mean cheap, cheaper than water. It is only $.12 a gallon here. Yes as in 12 cents!! I dont understand why its so expensive back at home, $4.00 im hearing? They said here that they have enough oil to fill 500million barrels a day for 300 years. Anyway to get off that tangent, the food here is great as well. Very delicious. ... read more

It all started so well, after a quick hop across the channel I was in Spain - no problems! I should have known things were going too well. At Madrid the flight to caracas was delayed by 2 hours! They didn't tell us this until we were on the plane though!? After sitting for 2 hours in a cramped seat between two huge Venezuelans we eventually took off!!...15 mins after take off the pilot said the plane had a problem and we have to go back and land in Madrid! No one knew what was going on or for how long we'd be there. Eventually after another 2.5 hour delay we boarded the plane again. Iberia´s new planes have a camera fitted to the tail of the so that you can see the aeroplane on the ... read more
