Bang! That's the pressure in my head now that I've had a few moments to unwind after one hell of a grueling day. Today was our shortest, but toughest day. We ascended over 1200 meters to a peak of 4200 meters. For all my American friends, that roughly climbing 4000 feet to an alititude of almost 14000 feet. The air's thin up here folks. Actually, I had fun during the climb. It was mostly Saggy Buns and I at the front with the Scottish Billy Goat. He's a quiet guy, but he seems nice enough. I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding him, but damn this kid can hike. We made camp at 2PM having accomplished our hiking goal for the day. At lunch, I sat next to the cute lasss which was a ... read more

I don't know if it was excitement or having slept too much the night before, but I had an awful time getting to sleep. This made our 4:30AM wake-up rather difficult for me. Fortunately, we packed everything the night before and met up with our tour group without incident. Our guides are Homer ("Jimmy"), Hebert, and Hilda. We have a large group of 19 very nice people. There are Scots, Aussies, Danes, Germans, and of course Americans. Our first day wasn't too strenuous, but it was a lot of fun just hiking and shooting the shit. I am also very excited to have Scots in the group because I just love listening to their accent. Our entourage includes a Scottish father and his twin kids. One seems to take after a billy goat and the other ... read more

- OYE! Senores! Hay una ... read more

Last Thursday we set off to walk the 33km Inca trail which was to lead us to Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Inca's. The 3 of us were the only one's to book with Inka Wasi for this time, so were fortunate to have "personal service" so to speak. We had a guide, a chef and 5 porter's to carry all the gear. We stopped at Ollantaytambo to get supplies, pick up the porters, and buy the last minute essentials for the trail... walking stick, drink bottle holder and coca leaves. The Inca Trail is a branch off the main route which joined Cuzco to Machu Picchu. The whole way is paved with stone and took us across some breathtaking scenery over 4 days. The trail is still used today by local families who ... read more

Day 3 Such an easier day! The slopes are nice and not too steep and there was a beautifull white dog that keeped me company on the trail. I made it to the last camp before Machu Picchu at around 11h00 am and the weather was just perfect. Andre´s knees are giving him problems now so he took it a little bit slower. And guess who has the cold now!!... read more

Day 2 Still got my butt kicked! We had to go trought dead women pass wich is at 4200 meters above the sea level. The air is very very thin and every step is a challenge. Andre decided to hike the way the porters do: with sandals on! His feet got better and he still made it to the dead woman pass an hour before I did. My hips, knees and shoulders hurt; I can´t wait to go to bed and get some sleep as the first night was freezing! Thank goodness for coca leaves!!... read more

Wow! I can’t believe I did it! The Inca Trail! It’s just something else. Day 1: A Gentle Start The bus picked us up from our hostel at stupid o clock and it was a couple of hours before we reached our first stop, a little village called Piskacuchu were there were hundreds of locals all selling big sticks for walking, coco leaves, water and snacks. We grabbed a quick breakfast and when i went out the back of the restaurant there was a big cage full of guinea pigs! No doubt headed for the dinner table that night! aaww!! So after we were suitably fed and watered and had bought enough snacks and chocolate to gets us through 45km of mountains reaching 4200m we were off. The road that takes you to the famous Km82 ... read more
