Glad to get comments from all of you, thanks, keep them coming, the kids sure are enjoying them! Sorry to hear about our fish, you can just save it so that when we get back we can make orange fish ceviche (Breana is not glad he's gone!). So yesterday, Saturday, we took a trip to "Rio Muchacho Eco Farm," with seven other guests from the hostal, what an adventure that was! First, we rode in the back of a minitruck (all 11 of us) for about 45 minutes north and east of Canoa and at one point of the trip, we had a righteous offroad journey (DJ's wording) through a washed out road river crossing, that the truck almost got stuck. Once we got there, we had to put on rubber boots to keep our legs ... read more

Hello, We are going to give this picture thing a try today, we are at a restaurant called the "surf shack" and we have our computer so here goes nothing! While we are sitting here enjoying the nice weather while having a beer, burgers, fries and pizza, while watching an episode of the simpsons on fox (feels like we are at home). Well the internet has been installed at the hotel but no wifi and no signal strength, hmmm, feels like charter is here, ha, ha! We are still keeping our fingers crossed for maybe monday! Since the last time we blogged, we have laid out on the beach, watched sunsets, have eaten good food, homework and studied, (well Henry, DJ, and BreBre) dranked and socialized with the other guests, and enjoyed our private beach, oh, ... read more

On March 1 I left Ibarra after my last weekend of flying with the Club de Planeadores in Ibarra, I returned to Quito with my friends the Davalos'. I stayed in Quito for two nights, then caught a 30 minute flight to Manta on the coast. I arrived in Manta about 7 PM. From the Manta airport I had a 90 minute taxi ride to Bahia Caraquez, then a short taxi boat ride across the bay to San Vicente, and then a short taxi ride to the condo where my friend John Brock lives. I arrived at John's place shortly after 9 PM. The taxi ride from Manta was a shaky affair. The road wasn't in the best shape, with lots of potholes, and it was night. The driver was constantly cranking the wheel and hitting ... read more

Hello All, This week has been so relaxing! Henry and DJ have finished their first week of spanish lessons, Henry is a great student according to his teacher, Mari Elena, and a comment that she made about DJ is that he is doing okay but all that he thinks about is "surfear solamente" (surfing only). DJ did have an injury this week, playing an intense game of ping pong with Henry (injured his big toe)! Breana has been playing with Lindsy everyday in the ocean and is now darker than Henry. Other than school for Henry, he does alot of nothing and alot of working out (as best as the he can without a gym), improvise, adapt, and overcome, you know Henry! Henry has taken over 800 pictures (about 700 of those are of sunsets, ha, ... read more

So sorry that we have not blogged as often as we would like but we have been keeping pretty buzy, buzy not doing anything! This is going to be short and sweet since Henry is not with me. He started taking his spanish courses on monday and has been liking them, and while he and Dj do that, I usually watch the girls play, translate for the both of them, and sometimes we will go in the ocean. DJ has been having a blast, he has learned to surf and loves it, and wants to surf all day (no surprise there!). Breana has been spending all her time playing with Lindsay, as well as doing some homework. For me, it has been pretty relaxing, some days has been kind of hot but nice, needless to say ... read more

Hello to all, Let me tell you about our crazy (and adventurous) travel day , it began by henry getting us up at the crack of dawn (8 o'clock) and rushing us out of bed so that we can catch the bus to canoa, took a taxi to the bus station, made it at ten thirty. Caught the bus at 1100 am to chone (not the 10 thirty bus to bahia). On the way to the bus station I got to talking to the taxi driver and he was telling me about the roads to canoa being washed out by the rains, I looked at Henry and asked him if flying there would be better, he said not to worry and then breana started freakin' out about not wanting to fly. We got on the bus ... read more

Fiestas, Volcanoes, Spanish and Surfing... We´ve been in Ecuador for less than two weeks and so far have had an amazing start to our South American travels. Ecuador is a great country to start in as it is much smaller than all the other countries we´ll be visiting (about the size of France) so quite managable to get around and it has such varying landscapes. As the internet is so slow we can´t upload any pictures but will try to soon. Quito We arrived in Quito after two days of travelling to find ourselves in the middle of their biggest annual festival so to say things were quite busy would be an understatement. Everyone in the city crams on to fun buses with food, drink and music and drives round and round the city all day ... read more

so i´m not really sure why i´m in here right now and not on the beach. i am in my bathing suit, which is a start. today is a GORGEOUS beach day. but more of that later. yesterday was great. basically i went back to the hostel and read one hundred years of solitude and took care of taylor. there´s some bug going around that 4 people in our group have already had that includes stomach pains, fever, and chills. i´ve helped take care of three of them, so i´ll probably be next to get it. but whatevs. i´m hoping karma lets me avoid it. last night we went out dancing! i bought a new shirt and we went to the coco bar (where there was a shootout 2 weeks ago) and went salsa dancing. all ... read more

¡Hola! i just spent the last week in Rio Muchacho near Canoa in Ecuador. Our large group of 22 has split up into 2 groups of 11...Quilla, which means moon, and Inti, which means sun. i´m in the Quilla group. my two leaders are Chris and Janiva, and they´re way cool. So on saturday we got up and took an 8 hour bus ride from Quito to Bahia. we drove through towns and tropical dry forests. one of the towns had just had a mudslide, which was really interesting to see. houses were hanging over cliffs or completely destroyed and it was really sad. we also saw views of the snow-capped Andes and Quito, which were really pretty. we drove through rolling green hills of farmland and rivers and mountains of the tropical dry forest. it ... read more

Since my last entry, both the Republican and Democratic Conventions have occurred and the NCAA college football season has started - how exciting!?! Life here hasn’t been quite as interesting, however, it has been filled with activity. I do apologize for taking so much time between blog entries these days - it is just that the blog has moved down on the priority list for a number of reasons. 1st - Thanks to all of your support, my Peace Corps Partnership grant was fully funded and my Env. Education guide is on its way to becoming reality. This occupies the majority of my “free time” these days. Instead of writing riveting accounts of my Ecuadorian experience, I pass my time writing activities and lessons to put into the guide. 2nd - When I do actually think ... read more
