We recommend this farm as the best place to learn organic farming and to immerse yourself in farm life with an amazing group of people - WE LOVED IT HERE! Thoughts/stories from the farm..... There´s quite a bit here.....4 weeks on a farm...so our suggestion is to grab a coffee, a water, a cuppa tea or a lovely glass of wine.....or beer for that matter and have a read... * Favourite story from the week....Local remedy for bringing on breast milk - take some guinea pig poo, blend with milk and drink!!!! A a lady on the farm did it and sure enough....her milk flowed!!!!!! * Journeys to and from the farm involve us hanging on in the back of a pick up truck.....with the wind in our hair (well mine at least!), getting covered in ... read more

Quick hello from us! In the small town about 30 min drive (over NZ country style roads, having to wait for cows just like back home!) from our farm for the night to chill out, maybe have a sleep in, do some surfing and chill on the beach....Also keen to find some coffee.....its one of things we REALLY miss from home, you´d think in Ecuador we´d have been drinking delicious coffee and eating loads of bananas but oddly enough no! Week one at the farm = * Up at 5.50am every day including Saturdays (steve´s job this week has been cleaning oout the pooey pig stalls before breakfast!) * But Loving it!! Learning heaps of farm stuff, our permaculture course is really interesting, getting as involved as possible....and learning heaps * although our spanish is still ... read more

27/04/09 Walking around Cuenca looking for somewhere to have breakfast we soon noticed a few things. The beauty of the city. Its such an historical city lined with pebbled streets and old buildings. But that wasn't the first thing that came to our attention. We realised within seconds of leaving our hotel that it wasn't a destination used to seeing travellers. The amount of attention we were getting was unbelievable. To the point where we were walking around the streets and a group of young police girls came up to us and asked if they could take our photos. Locals in the shops and in cars passing by were laughing. After eating a huge breakfast we caught a taxi to the bus terminal and booked our bus tickets to the beach town of Montanita for ... read more

Alright, so I have no good reason for this being my first entry. I could tell you everytime I went to Canoa (a 30 minute walk down the beach) either the power went out or the internet shut down. I could tell you it is because I have been such an attentive Spanish student, busy filling my brain with important information. I could say it is because I have been so busy learing to surf while working on my tan. I could say it is because drinking big cold beers while watching the sun set over the ocean is a much nicer way to spend my time than in the internet cafe. I could say it is because i have been spending all my time with my new best friends, Caroline (4 years) and Rosalea (9 ... read more

Hello all, Sad to say that this will be our last blog from Canoa (for a while anyway). We are currently sitting at the surfshak having our last breakfast in Canoa, and will be packing later today. We will head to Manta in the morning via taxi and then fly to Quito in the afternoon (notice, there will not be any travel by bus, my nerves couldn't handle it). We will spend a couple of days there and then fly back home later this week! It has been great, meeting all these nice people and relaxing. Last few days have been pretty laid back, and getting our thoughts together for the time when we get to come back! Henry and DJ finished class on Friday and DJ has been catching up big time on his school ... read more

I'm so sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Time just flies in Canoa. I have been meaning to blog for over a week now and it has been impossible, between saying bye to friends, celebrating b-day parties (happy hours!), and laying out and doing nothing... it seems like it was just yesterday when I last blogged. Since the last time, we have lost Max, Kelly, and Ryans parents back home to Canada (we miss them all already). We have had the pleasure to meet Joel and Peter from Seattle (finally more americans, not that we don't like our Canadian friends). The boys (Henry and DJ along with Joel and Peter) are in spanish class, while Breana and I are doing the same old thing which is enjoying the sun, the surf and Breanas school work (hats off to you homeschoolers, no ... read more

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We finally have internet at the Sundown Hotel! Since the last blog, Henry's voice has returned back to normal (after horseback riding), DJ has been beached (catching up on school work), and Breana has been bummed since we lost her Karine (she went home to Canada), Henry and Dj are back in class, and I am happy not to be cooking and cleaning. Not only did we lose Karine, but we also lost Pablo, Dan, and Geoff(traveling on to Peru), as well as Harley and Wendy (back home to Washington). Before we lost Karine, she brought us one of her friends, Pascal (also from Canada) to take her place, it has been great having him around! It also has been great getting to know Ryans parents, who are escaping the cold in Canada. Let me ... read more
