We´re advised to go to the Doctor in St Vincente, 20km from Canoa. He knows his shit. We get a taxi to bring us there. The surgery seems like the usual doctors surgery, the nurse is wearing white, theres a few very sick old people around! We get through the formalities in Spanish. Go into the Examination roon. The Doc doesnt speak English. My spanish is really not at the level to decribe exact symptons, but with a few hand gestures and a few sore this n that, we muddle are way through it. Actually as does most, i do a lot of nodding! Describing, being sick, toilet stuff and amount of time etc. Really doesnt take a brain surgeon to work out we have food/water/ass poisioning! He does a few checks, prods a few places ... read more

I need a vacation, 3 weeks of school and I´m pooped! The plan is hit the coast, canoa first then travel down towards Puerto Lopez. The night bus was booked out so had to take the day bus. Was a scary journey, coming out of Quito, out of the Mountains. Especially when he locked the brakes and near rear ended someone! Have made it as far as Baños, theres a local festival on. End up drinking Aquadiente with a few locals. Translated, it means fire water! It is! My Spanish was great after a few shots! Ended up in Canoa, in a hostel Coco Loco. Friendly dudes there, nice soup. Sunday is a quiet one there, but we hit the pub for the Copa America final between Brazil and the Argys. Brazil wins! The old caprioskas ... read more

Nus muss er geroestet ... read more

Apologies to anyone who thought that my prolongued silence meant that I had actually fallen off the face of the Earth, but a set of rather unfortunate circumstances meant that this is the first time I've been able to get near the Internet since over a week ago...... read more

So having cried off work on Tuesday I rocked up on Wednesday ready to make the kids learn even more than usual (yes that is practically nothing, but i do try!!) only to discover that they had been told not to come in because they thought I would still be ill! So went out for dinner with Hannah at a very mediocre restaurant called Sutra (quite similar to that Turkish place in London lau, but the food just DIDN´T measure up, at all!!) Ohh well! On to a bar for happy hour, which lasts from 6 til 10, definitely my kind of happy hour!! Played some very bad pool before being joined by a few locals who put us to shame! Good practice for the Spanish, but it involves such concentration, which just doesnt happen ... read more

Getting There So me and Miry decided to take the Easter Holiday down by the Coast at a place called Canoa and considering we only had three days there the 10-11 hour trip is a bit much for a couple of days in the Sun but it was worth it in the end. The Bus left around 10:30 on Thursday night and I had an eight hour sleepless journey to Puerto Viejo. I thought I would be used to the manic driving through pitch black roads that constantly wind all the way from the Mountains to the valleys and only straighten up towards the Coastal plains but no! did my experiences in Asia count for nothing. So we arrived at Porto Viejo at about 8 in the morning trying to decipher from the locals who was ... read more
