Guatapé According to Wikipedia, the name Guatapé is a Quechua word referring to stones and water. Stones are there, a gigantic boulder in the countryside and as for water, you´ll be surrounded by one of the largest lakes in Colombia. And that´s what I have here now, a description of a place where you can kick back while exploring this enchanting destination. What a facade! Getting to Guatapé was a pleasant surprise for me as I didn't know that such a colourful lakeside town existed; si señor, imagine an amazing destination with beautiful zocalos painted, that´s right, dimensioned images of pastel-colored paintings on the lower wall tiles of people´s houses. Brilliant idea!!! Lucky us the inhabitants sculpted and painted their most common everyday activities, products sold, geographical and cultural beliefs on the lower part of their ... read more

Heading to the East And following my journeys to the East of Antioquia, I then got to El Retiro, a nice destination that provided us with a short visit to the village and a lovely chocolate with arepas. The village, at only 35 kilometres from Medellin, is located near some of the towns I also visited like La Ceja and Envigado. The architecture of the town is quite Spanish, lots of colonial balconies which give the impression of a very old village, with a very long history shown by its date of foundation, back in 1791. It is expected that if you go, you can feel freedom as El Retiro is known for being La Cuna de la Libertad. Your task will be to admire those colonial streets full of lovely facades and balconies which were ... read more

The East of Antioquia is composed of 25 municipalities, that´s lots, and one of them is La Ceja which is actually called Valle de La Ceja del Tambo. Why? It seems that back in 1683 when there were no roads or anything, in order to camp on their way to Santiago de Arma, countrymen built a refuge or¨tambo¨ that they called La Ceja. According to Wikipedia, La ceja is known by its religious concerns, and also its high academic quality. Please, do not expect me to explain the origin of the name as I have tried to find out but with no chance; let´s say that maybe their inhabitants wear lush eyebrows or something, but this is just my made-up explanation. So far, I haven't met any inhabitant to be able to judge my theory, sorry. ... read more

Its importance in brief... Called the notheastern door of Antioquia, Cisneros gained importance thanks to the railway linking Medellin and Puerto Berrio. The things I have read about the story of the railway sounded to me like one reminiscent of the Titanic; the similarity continues in the sense that as this huge passenger liner sank, the dreams of so much trade and tourism came to a halt due to careless management, security and poverty problems. The name of the village was coined thanks to one of the founders, the engineer Francisco Javier Cisneros who, together with Jose Maria Duque, were the ones behind the works of the railway in Antioquia. For that matter, there is a marble bust in the village as a hommage to whom the villagers considers a hero! Located at only 2 hours ... read more

Geo: 6.23578, -75.5799Merry Christmas from Colombia! So far Medellin hasn't been the most exciting of places, owing to most cafes, restaurants, and stores being closed as a result of the holidays. Searching for some life in the streets, I headed over to Cerro Nutibara, a park high atop a hill with a recreation of a typical Antioquian town. Paisa is a person from the region, and the recreation is named Pueblito Paisa, literally meaning little Paisa village. The place was full of families today, and I even ran into one that was staying at the hostel. Not the most exciting attraction as it's a bit cheesy, but it made for a decent stroll with Pueblo Paisa and the Parque de las Esculturas (sculpture park), and it also provided a bit of fresh air, an escape from ... read more

Geo: 6.21667, -75.5667All accounts of Medellin that I've heard so far on this trip suggest one thing - that the women here are the most beautiful in the entire country, no small feat considering that Colombia is purported to have the most beautiful women in all of South America, a continent which boasts no shortage of fine women. El Poblado is supposed to be the epicentre of it all in Medellin, the affluent neighbourhood bursting with tourists and the wealthy, and is also renowned for its nightlife and constant parade of supermodels through its nightclubs. The stories I've heard border on comical - I've been told that it's like a party at the Playboy Mansion, but with ten times the gorgeous women. Apparently Colombia has also snatched the title away from Venezuela, for the country whose ... read more

... read more

Quasiment toute l’équipe ... read more

... read more
