Our first few days in Rio did not happen quite as we had imagined. Lying on sunny beaches has had to be postponed for a bit. The clouds and drizzle have not stopped us seeing the Statue of Christ (amazing views all round on the one clear afternoon!) , Sugar Loaf mountain, the Botanical gardens and meeting up with Chris (J´s cousin..ish) and his family. We enjoyed taking the rickety tram up to Santa Teresa. This is an area full of quirky streets with the occasional cafe and souvenir shop. Great view of Rio and the favellas. Have decided to take a trip down to Ihla Grande, which is an island off the coast two hours south of Rio. Hoping for some sun! ... read more

We arrived yesterday after 4 buses and 20 hours on the road! We were well tired. Great hostel, got hamocks, pool, relaxing area all outside (as it is warm up north) all for 5quid each a night. So we are in Bonito, yes we changed our route, it´s a little town in the middle of no where, near Bolivia (look it up!) There is one main road through it and all the other roads are dirt tracks. Just chilled out last night after checking out the ´town´and booking a tour for tomorrow. Today we were up at 6.50am as we were being picked up at 7.30. We were going to go and float down a river, I know that doesnt sound so good but wait, this had been recomended by a south african couple we met ... read more

And they´re off!! The start to our trip didn´t go quite as planned, but turned out really well for us. We turned up at Heathrow with all our bags ready to check in and were offered 405 pounds each to take the next days flight. This was too good to pass up, so we found ourselves spending our first night not in a hostel, but in the Heathrow Hilton! This meant an extra day hanging around the airport, but the free food, the indoor pool and the cash did compensate! The flight was fine, apart from being separated. Some couples might think that a blessing... not us! We changed at Sao Paulo and landed in Rio at 08:00am on the 20th. My cousin (mums cousin) picked us up and took us to our Hostel where we ... read more

well its been a while but im afraid we have come to an end. This the 19th is our last day! The emails begging our parents for extra money so we could stay here an extra month, or 6 failed so we are on our way home this afternoon. Its been an adventure, but its okay because now we are planning our next one. last minute dash We´re in Rio again now but getting here was a bit of a struggle, with less than 10 days to go we suddenly realised that we were in Peru, humm, so a taxi to Bolivia (yes a taxi from Peru to Bolivia!!!) was in order and then a bus to La Paz. In La Paz we did last min shopping, and spent a little (*cough* lot *cough*) too much ... read more

Brazil. Get me off this ship! The seas have been quite rocky and we are all ready to be on land! (I have yet to get seasick though. .knock on wood!) Thank goodness too the land we found was BRAZIL! The second stop on this voyage around the world and I have already experienced so much. On Monday morning when we arrived in Salvador we put down our anchor and waited to be allowed to dock. We had to have a health inspection because we had just come from Venezuela and then we all had to go through immigration (passport stamped!) and we had to have our diplomatic briefing (which was everything but BRIEF!) and then we were finally able to pull up to this amazing city on the ocean. Salvador is separated into two levels; ... read more

After our 20 hours unsuccsessful journey whale watching we have now travelled 16 hours into the middle of Brazil, next to the borders with Paraguay and Argentina to see the massive water falls. We arrived at 8am got a couple of buses to our ´hotel´, looked a bit seedy with the tramps lying next door but had been recommended by the lonely planet guide, had our breakfast (and made our lunch as usual) the room was fine, minus the paint peeling. We went straight out and onto a bus to go to the brazilian side of the falls. Got to the falls and went to pay. If you live in Brazil or Argentina or are disabled you get in mega cheap or free!!!! If you are english or forgein you pay top whack! (5 quid each!) ... read more

The people you touch, the way you touch them, I hope they touch you too, cause in this life its hard to tell whats false and what is true... The things you see, the way you see them may never be seen again... The thing that's strange is you only live once and never look back again. Im dying to be alive, not trying to just survive, lets not go through our lives without just dying to be alive. - Hanson The journey to Brazil was a long one. We were at sea for about a week and the last couple days we hit 'rough water'with waves about 7feet and our stomachs were all feeling it. Thank God for those little bands you wear to prevent motion sickness. When we arrived into Salvador, Brazil we were ... read more

Ok, this is how to waste a complete whole day in a few easy steps. Get up at 7am and get on a bus. Jump on another bus for a couple of hours. Walk around aimlessly for a good 2 to 3 hours. (Stop communicating with eachother!) Catch a bus back to the start point of the walking. (bus home not for 6 hours) Walk around aimlessly again for 3 to 4 hours. (start to communicate with each other again) Wait at the bus terminal for 2 hours. Bus is half an hour late! On bus for a couple of hours. Onto another bus for half an hour, then another bus! Get back and put pizza in the slowest oven in the world. Eat pizza an hour later (midnight) Then bed. Not a good day. Now, ... read more

Hey! We are in Florianopolis after 20 hours on a coach!(14.09.05) It was ok actually, stopped off a lot and managed to sleep! One time when we were in the services we came back out and the coach wasn´t there! Andy was worried! I knew it hadn´t gone and of course it turned up again. It had been raining for 2 days solid! We had to walk around in the rain to find somewhere to live. Got soaked through and freezing. Needless to say spirits had depleted a little. Today we have checked out Florianopolis (as we are actually staying in Barra da lagoa small town on the east side). Been looking at the shops and still not allowed to buy any clothes!!! We gave in after struggling to cook nice food and had Mac donalds. ... read more

Oh my lordy lordy, the JUICE. Order a “suco natural” at a snack bar or restaurant and they will bring you fresh squeezed and then sometimes blended juice for a frothy way to quench your thirst. And not just orange juice. Most places will have a variety of the following: orange, mango, papaya, pineapple, avocado (they’re huge and sweet here - actually more like a smoothie when they are blended up), açaí, acerola, cashew (from the fruit part of the tree, not the nut), strawberry, passionfruit, goiaba, graviola... mostly stuff that we don’t even have words for in English. Its amazing. So colorful - orange, yellow, purple, pink, green, chocolatey brown... And so unbelieveably delicious. My favorite is far and away the açaí. Man oh man, suco de açaí - amazing. The "agua de coco," ... read more
