Let me tell you how we rolled at Ubatubu: we settled down on the beach, carefully oriented our beach towels in order to catch some rays at the proper angle (you gotta do it right: wanna avoid our upper lip staying white under our long noses while the rest of our body is getting a proper tan!), we went for a quick swim, lied down and took a good nap. Later on, we ate ice cream, went for a little jog on the beach (Brazilian style!), tried to do a few push-ups… We went swimming again, then went for a little walk along the shore. We climbed up a hill to enjoy fabulous vistas over the beaches; we picked up seashells, bought a few postcards, read our books… It’s not always easy but someone’s gotta do ... read more

Our Brazilian friend, Edi, drove us to the car rental agency in the southern suburbs of Sao Paulo. He also lent us a GPS involuntarily programmed to avoid the major highways!... which made it challenging to get out of the city! We left around 10am after rush hour and we quickly reached Santos and the ocean. We followed the coastal road all the way to Sao Sebastiao. Sao Paulo is surrounded by big mountains covered in lavish forests. After 10 days spent in humongous Sao Paulo, my mom was excited to get away from the city and she took in a big breath at the first beach we stopped at. The beach was so wide at low tide. Other than vultures (yes, the actual birds!), there was absolutely nobody but us on the beach. My life ... read more

WE WERE THERE! And it was fabulous! Even better than I had imagined it would be: football fans and tourists from all around the world partying, singing and dancing with the local Brazilian supporters, everyone making the best of this unique moment in the history of the sport: the opening ceremony and inaugural game of the World Cup in Brazil! And yes, my parents and I were in Sao Paulo to enjoy! I had been expecting this event in years so you can imagine how pumped up I was in the morning as we were getting ready, painting our faces and putting our soccer jerseys on! We were all supporting Brazil: my parents were wearing their bright yellow Romario and Bebeto’s jerseys (classic 1998 shirts!) with a yellow and green hat for my Dad and a ... read more

Our first month in South America has been filled with animals and adventure, from wasp stings to Caiman wrestling, from the Amazon Jungle to the Beaches of Rio. We spent 5 days on a boat traveling down the Amazon and less exciting days on many buses traveling through the country. The Nichols family has united here in Sao Paulo and the World Cup fun has begun!... read more

Brazil Well it's only been 24 hours and its already been a fun adventure! My flight out of Raleigh was delayed 2 hours, so I didn't get to adventure around Miami, but I met a friend, Taylor from New Mexico, that I can hit up in Rio. He also gave me the number of one of his good friends who'll be in Manaus while I am. Got in my first Boeing 777! Largest plane I've ever been on! And they had Jurassic Park as the in flight entertainment! I watched it, The LEGO Movie, Robo Cop, and part of The Grand Budapest Hotel. And I had the whole aisle to myself! I sat at the window for the take-off and landing, and let my long legs breath in the aisle the rest of the time. Got ... read more

Sao Paulo : (En Francais plus bas) After a month of cyling in Bahia, my Dad and I made it to Sao Paulo (Sampa !) where we met up with my Mom, and stayed with our good friends Sarah and Edi. This is what Brazil is all about ! Getting together again : After a very long bus ride fom Bahia (26 hours ?) we reached Santo Andre, in the south of Sao Paulo to meet my Mom, who traveled all the way from France to spend some World Cup time with us in BRAZIIIIIIL, and our good friend Sarah (from Canada) who now ... read more

Não me recordo. Decisão ... read more

Dear Grace and Mag, I don't really know where to start with Brazil... I was so happy to see him again. At first I was nervous but probably more from excitement. We were just as we had ever been - really close and always laughing. The first few days were carnival so I met all his friends and got drunk with them. Really enjoyed the street parties, kind of reminded me of Spain. His family were lovely too. They couple of weekends we all played cards and had drinks at home which was nice because the language barrier between his mum and I didn't matter. I really wish I could have communicated with her more because we got on really well. And his sister is amazing we could talk quite a bit, enough to gang up ... read more

Since I dedicated my last two blog entries more or less on girly topics such as education, I will talk about the things that truly matter today: cars and beer. Former fascination became my second nature when moving to Stuttgart (which is pretty much all about cars for the ones not familiar with the Swabians and their love for Mercedes and Co.). Speaking about the latter is due to my personal background and upbringing, I guess.
