Now that we are back on the boat from Puerto Rico, classes have come into full effect! I won’t lie it has been pretty hard getting into the school mode. I do like all of my classes though; I am taking Global Studies, which is a requirement for all students. We have the class everyday and we can either sit in the actual area where the class takes place called the union or we can go to satellite rooms around the ship and watch the class from a TV screen. The union usually fills up with students and it is way rockier than the rest of the ship because it is up near the bow. The class briefs us on the countries that we are going to and teaches about them. I am also talking ... read more

White is the colour, and we made sure that we dressed for the occasion! Eager to join millions of others heading for the beach, where gifts are offered to the Queen of the sea - Lemanja (as part of one of Salvadors religious ceremonies) we made our way to Itapoa. Making our way to the beach party that we were previously invited to by our brazilian friends, our bus driver (who was being cheered and encouraged by at least 50 people) was accelerating around every corner to the joy of the people singing and dancing on the bus! Madness, but fun! Reinstating the fact that we believe the biggest danger here is being either run over by a mad cabbie or ending up in a pile-up! The new year was seen in with firework displays, singing ... read more

We are pleased to announce that we have made it safely to Brazil! After a more than interesting flight to Sao Paulo from Buenos Aires, where we pretty much feared for our lives after our plane was delayed due to engine failure we have made it to Salvador De Bahia... So, the flight. Our first flight was delayed by 3 hours, and after about 45mins we started to feel more and more concerned after the pilot announced that one of the engines was failing (before take-off!) , not helped by the fact that we had a clear view of the cockpit (not quite a 747), and we could clearly see a couple of guys fiddling with numerous wires. Nevermind, all is well and we have vowed never to fly TAM again! Our first impressions of Salvador... a ... read more

Ferias no Brasil!!! OMG he´s back again...riding an unusual high, inexplicable and maybe just getting over the travails of the past few days...and knowing where I am, I think!..its Arrial DÁjuba..maybe..does it matter?... On email - I´d sent one off to someone and hoping they hadn´t just hit the ´delete´button automatically, assuming it was another useless rant or offer of something unnecessary, unwanted or unobtainable...I love opening my email after a spell and seeing lots of entries, then despair seeing all the usual offers to either make my dick bigger or my mortgage smaller...is it the same operation?..the same doctors?...do chicas get the same junkmails?..is the internet gender sensitive?..if so what messages to gays get?...Its one of several disturbing features of email...another is the amazingly intimate degree of personal closeness one gets so quickly with maybe complete strangers...and then, ... read more

OK devotees, back to the keyboard after a few days off...in this episode we continue down the coast of NE Brasil, getting a taste of several states, I get drugged, deserted, mugged but rescued in Salvador, we continue to pass thru too many inumerable cute towns and gorgeous beaches to count...(but if you want the travelogue, check the discovery channel...or national geographic)...so, whats really happening? The notes in my little note book are getting more cramped as I´m down to the last couple of pages...not that theyre the last few pages, just the last few usable pages as every notebook starts at both ends for Really important stuff...´so the back and front few pages have the names and eddresses of people, phone numbers, currency exchange rates, time comparisons etc etc..all a bit silly really as its ... read more

There is so much that I have to say and want to get typed out but I only have so much time since there is only one computer in the small family hotel that I am staying in. Well, yesterday I arrived to Salvador, Bahia and picked up by a friend of my - Carol. She took me into the city to the place where I am staying to drop off my bags. Then Carol and I went out to eat a this beautiful restaurant that looks out over the coast. It had this really great views since it was built on top of a rock formation that was about 4 stories high. Of course I had a Caipirinha (kiwi) and then got this huge pot of squid stew. Delicious! Later on the same day I ... read more

Brazil. Get me off this ship! The seas have been quite rocky and we are all ready to be on land! (I have yet to get seasick though. .knock on wood!) Thank goodness too the land we found was BRAZIL! The second stop on this voyage around the world and I have already experienced so much. On Monday morning when we arrived in Salvador we put down our anchor and waited to be allowed to dock. We had to have a health inspection because we had just come from Venezuela and then we all had to go through immigration (passport stamped!) and we had to have our diplomatic briefing (which was everything but BRIEF!) and then we were finally able to pull up to this amazing city on the ocean. Salvador is separated into two levels; ... read more

The people you touch, the way you touch them, I hope they touch you too, cause in this life its hard to tell whats false and what is true... The things you see, the way you see them may never be seen again... The thing that's strange is you only live once and never look back again. Im dying to be alive, not trying to just survive, lets not go through our lives without just dying to be alive. - Hanson The journey to Brazil was a long one. We were at sea for about a week and the last couple days we hit 'rough water'with waves about 7feet and our stomachs were all feeling it. Thank God for those little bands you wear to prevent motion sickness. When we arrived into Salvador, Brazil we were ... read more
