White is the colour, and we made sure that we dressed for the occasion!
Eager to join millions of others heading for the beach, where gifts are offered to the Queen of the sea - Lemanja (as part of one of Salvadors religious ceremonies) we made our way to Itapoa.

Making our way to the beach party that we were previously invited to by our brazilian friends, our bus driver (who was being cheered and encouraged by at least 50 people) was accelerating around every corner to the joy of the people singing and dancing on the bus! Madness, but fun! Reinstating the fact that we believe the biggest danger here is being either run over by a mad cabbie or ending up in a pile-up!

The new year was seen in with firework displays, singing and dancing, and a live band playing samba and other brazilian favourites! The night turned out to be an eventful one, with some fairly strange characters, including a leg stroking american girl, a belly poking midget and an escape that lasted till sunrise!
