Hi there! Today we made our journey to the tropical valleys known as the Yungas or ´Beasty Heaven´as Steve calls it! We were planning to get a bus with all the other locals but when we turned up a guy was touting the bus companies offering a lift for the same price in his 4 x 4. Steve decided it would be good to go with him, but I was not sure that he wouldn´t be a mad axe murderer - turns out he was just trying to make some money and he took us all the way to our hotel in Coroico. He used the new road to drive on but in some parts it did not seem new, it was quite bumpy and in some parts falling away on the hill side - still ... read more

After leaving Puka Puka, we return to Sucre and then on the morning of the 15th we fly back to La Paz. We have a scrummcious sushi lunch, at La Paz´s best Japanese resturant, a huge lunch for under 5 pounds. Awesome. Then we do various jobs, namely digest, then go and have dinner with Alberto, the head of the school in Cochabamba. It is nice to see him again (especially since despite my inability to understand him, or speak any decent form of spanish - i am informed over dinner that instead of saying trout (trucha) it comes out as the slang word for vagina! - he insists that I stay with him when I come back to cochabamba), and Lisa and Galen tie up their loose ends. We are also very sadly foiled ... read more

We finally arrived in Coroico all pumped on adrenaline and booked into a fantastic hostel, Sol Y Luna (www.solyluna-bolivia.com/ )the best place we have stayed on the whole trip it was amazing. Check the website out. They have a number of rooms and cottages. We stayed in the Bamboo cottage for 3 nights and loved every minute of it. The place was expensive for Bolivia and more than we usually pay but 10 pound a night was a bargain for what we got. The cottage was built on the side of the hillside and had amazing panoramic views of Corioco and all you could see was the thick jungle and mountains for miles and miles. The cottage had everything we needed great room, hot shower, kitchen, bbq and patio with hammocks for lounging about in. All ... read more

We have seen some diversity on this trip - but the place we found ourselves in after our 64km descent from La Paz was like a different world, not a nearby town. We had dropped from half the height of Everest - where the landscape was jagged and bleak with warm days and wintery nights - to a mere 1,000 feet where the subtropical climate allowed orange groves, banana, coca and coffee plantations to turn the landscape green and lush. We had planned to take a trek out of Coroico further down into the valley, but when we realised our hotel had a pool AND for the first time since Melbourne (almost 3 months ago) we could actually wear nothing but swimwear and sunglasses we made a joint decision "let´s sit on our arses for three ... read more

Bussimatka Rurresta Coroicon lahistolla sijaitsevaan Yolosaan kesti vaivaiset kuutisentoista tuntia.

where to go and thaw the bones after a number of weeks at altitude ? coroico mis amigos, coroico. touted as the "bolivian eden" it was too good to resist and too good to be true. after swatting the remaining sand flies at the base of the mountain bike ride (world´s most dangerous road) and sheading the thermals, fleeces, scarves, alpacca hats, gloves and rain proofs, it was time to lug the bags up to our rooms and change into swim wear. yes, sweet swim wear. coroico is nestled high in the mountains under la paz and a peaceful little village with spectacular views of the steep, steep mountains and the clouds that find it hard to make their way, all the way to the top. it also has a lot of steps. you climb steps ... read more

Coroico, Bolivia February 4-9, 2007 After our adventure on the Tupiza-Uyuni circuit, we left Uyuni by train for Orouro where we briefly stopped to confirm our hostal for the famous Carnaval before taking a bus to La Paz. Arrving to the Bolivian capital, we immediately took another bus for Coroico where we stayed for couple of days of hamac, pool and reading. The road between La Paz and Coroico has the international reputation of the world's most dangerous road... however, we took a colectivo which used the newly paved road leading to this village. The sinuous but safer road was surrounded by cliffs and lust mountains. After three hours, we finally arrived in the charming and quiet village of Coroico. The view from our room was spectacular....we could see all the mountains surrounding us and the ... read more
