Me again!! You are all probably falling out of your chairs at how often I write, knowing that I´m not one to keep frequent contact! But I had a friend who traveled and she kept me on her distribution list, and I always looked forward to her wild details. Hope most of you feel the same :-) Saturday was another first for me. We arrived, eight of us, to a restaurant at midnight. MIDNIGHT. And the place was packed. We had a wonderful dinner and several bottles of wine. It was a place known for its carne, and my friend ordered the HALF of one of their good steaks and in ounces, I think this piece was at least 18 oz. And for 29 pesos. My plate was a big salad with spinach, tomatoes, goats cheese, ... read more

Another week is gone and I am starting today the second part of my stay in BS AS. On Saturday I was in the centre looking for a ticket to Sao Paulo I haven't found yet (yes I already start thinking about after Buenos Aires!) and in Puerto Madero, a posh and modern area, there is a sign with distances to all the main cities of the world... Then I saw Paris 11000 km. It is hard to realize that here we are 11000 kms from Europe. Ok It is not similar to Europe but it is not 11000 kms different neither!!! Yesterday (Sunday) I went like 10000 poeple (it is a popular destination during summer!) Aires on the delta of Rio Pañana. It is an harbour from where you can reach the remote places of ... read more

OK. I´m gonna write this as if Saturday night hadn´t already happened too!!! So, a gang of us met up for some drinks at Macondo, then most of us taxied down to Puerto Madero, to a restaurant/club called Asia de Cuba, supposedly the classiest joint in town, to meet more guys from the school. Well, it was a pretty nice place, plenty of cute chicas (both locals and from the school), and a good time was had by all. I did discover one problem with the popularity (and low cost) of red wine down here, when someone danced into me and most of a glass went down my front. Ah well. Left about 6 to some guys from the schools apartment for a little after-party, rolled home about 8am. Bonza. Up at 11.30 to go sightseeing ... read more

Food: The undeniable Italian influence makes pizzas, pastas, and gelato as prevelant as pigeons in Union Square Park. But I had to try the steak, as Argentine beef is why some people visit. We picked a chic Italian restaurant that gives complimentary champagne with the bread basket. Nicole´s pasta was good, but my steak was tough and fatty. Not to be dettered, I will be trying the beef from the parilla (grill) which can be served at local greasy spoons designed for this purpose. We did find out about an Arabic restaurant and the thought of falafel made our mouths water. (sandwich and soda, $1) Mainly we´ve had plenty of salads, a few pizzas, some pasta, and plenty of crossaints or whatever accompanies all the cups of coffee people drink here. There´s even a pastry ... read more

On Sundays, San Telmo, a neighborhood south of the city center that is known for its bohemian, artsy vibe, which usually equates to young people living just a hair above squatter level "by choice". The guys from our building are moving there....we finally found out their names..it was definitely turning into a Seinfeld episode where a group of people hang out and feel like they should know each other´s name by now, but don´t wanna ask so to avoid the awkward moments, you have to always wait till they´re looking at you before you address them....it´s funny, to do....and I was waiting until they addressed each other, but as luck would have it all they do is grunt or bark "yo" to the other person. Napolean Dynamite, I soon learn is named Ean. He´s cool ... read more

Club 69. Hmm. What a crazy night! We´d heard various reports about this legendary Bs As night on Thursdays at Club Niceto. The best quote I heard was "There's lots of transvestites and dwarfs who´ll knick your sh!t and give you fake money". To which I said BRING IT ON!!!! Well, we met up just before midnight at Bar Taller on Plaza Serrano, had a quick drink their then headed to the club about 1am. Too early. Still not used to this. Doesn´t even open til 1.30. So we find a classy local bar called the loft and have a drink there. Back to the club, and though there were no dwarfs that I could see, men in womens clothing were definitely amongst the dancers. Well, one. A big fat guy with massive man-tits, who made ... read more

Recoleta Cemetary: We checked out one of the most interesting places in the whole city...morbidly enough, it is the city of the dead. The cemetary, (which looks like a small city with tombs extravagantly designed as small houses) is home to only those with famous last names, prestige, and a lotta cash. There is an Argentine saying that states 'one can live an extremely wealthy life and still not pay as much as it cost to be buried in Recoleta Cemetary'. We actually know two locals (Frederico and Giancarlo) whose families have plots there. Some of them house entire families, others only large enough for one or two coffins. We also saw a few smaller ones with only 2 coffins spaces, which are occupied, therefore about 10 boxes of other relatives are piled on on top ... read more

How could I be in Buenos Aires and NOT title this first entry with a tribute to ALW´s Evita? You can take the girl out of cheesy Musicals, but you can´t the cheesy music out of the girl! Griff and I arrived here after commuting overland and in the air for over 24 hours. Griff had the worst of it, as he got sick before leaving and was forced to travel in such a state. He is presently back at the hotel (cheap but clean I might add- the hotel, not the husband) sleeping and trying to take it easy. Though I had high hopes of making a day out of seeing the Casa Rosada and other monuments in BA, I will instead spend the day tending to my sick husband...I am most certain that he ... read more
