Hi Everyone! It's our second day at sea with the new passengers that boarded in Valparaiso, Chile. The ocean is so calm and peaceful showing no signs that the 30-40 foot waves will return. Everyone that was here to witness the havoc, including the crew, are still talking about it. The ship even made CNN news - I guess they thought we possibly wouldn't return. LOL I can't believe how empty the ship feels now that we are missing about 800 people. There are so many vacant rooms and people are being upgraded to other parts of the ship so they can close down certain areas. There are about 1800 passengers as opposed to the maximum of 2600 that we had the last two weeks. Good news though, there are more passengers travelling solo - a ... read more

We are at sea and the weather has been horrific to say the least. We've had to secure anything that moves in our stateroom, they've drained all the pools and production shows were canceled for this evening due to the all the rocking. I even had a spa appointment this morning and had to cancel because I was too sick to attend...up all night with crap banging back and forth and motion sickness has gotten the best of me. Thank God for Dramamine! We've had to change course tonight due to the violent storm and this will put us a day behind getting into Valparaiso Chile. So many people are freaking out because this is their disembarkation port and will need to change flights and gaining access to civilization is not the easiest out here in ... read more

Eleanor and I are now back in Sydney after three weeks away, sixteen nights on the QM2, one night in Singapore, three nights in Phuket and one night flying back home. The QM2 was an experience, with two and half thousand passengers and over one thousand crew it's got a population bigger than many country towns, but the only time we felt crowded was when we embarked in Sydney and disembarked in Singapore. It's a very big ocean liner, one lap around deck seven was about 600 metres. Even in heavy seas the QM2 is very stable, a no point did we feel sea sick and I didn't hear of any others on the ship getting sea sick. Eleanor and I were amongst the "young guns" on the ship, the average age was probably sixty plus ... read more

Just a quick update cuz I got lots to do: Tomorrow when I arrive in San Diego, I may not be allowed off the ship at all. Due to our Code Red status with the GI virus, I have to scrub down my entire rack and have it inspected by members of the CDC way early in the morning. Depending on when I'm cleared, I may only have a few hours off the ship, or it could work out that I'm not allowed off at all. If this is the case, I won't obviously be making my phone calls, so I appologize in advance if you all don't hear from me. The GI Virus has spread rapidly throughout the ship. The first day, we had a reported 10 passengers inflicted, and within 3 hours, the number ... read more

Ahoy there mateys, Its been a while since I wrote and that's mainly because I've been a bit down in the dumps. I've had a lot of 'at sea' days and the weather hasn't been great but anyway... So my day in Christchurch was fairly uneventful - I had a wander around the department store and across catherdral square. Sadly it was cold and raining so not really the day for sight seeing. Christchurch is known for its design as a typical English town... hence the catherdral, they also have a little river, called the Avon - where they have punts and row-boats. Actually it was very much like an English town in the rain - i.e. everyone is miserable and there's nothing to do. Although aesthetically everything was in place... there was something missing... age. ... read more

We arrived in Tahiti to a very special greeting…a gorgeous full moon. We quickly cleared customs and immigration and received the traditional Tiare Tahitian flower. As it was late when checking into our hotel, we quickly collapsed into bed. The next morning we were delighted with our surroundings. The resort was located on a soft black sand beach with beautiful surf. We relaxed on the beach for a few hours and mingled with other guests, all Australians and Europeans. We all participated as admiring, if uninvited, guests taking pictures of a young couples’ wedding. Papeete which means “a basket of water” in Tahitian is a lively, animated little city, with much of it’s interest centered along the waterfront, surrounded with markets to greet the tourists from the cruise ships. Beyond that, it’s just a busy city. ... read more

As one of the most storied sea captains sailing today, Dag Dvergastein has served on just about every imaginable vessel afloat including cargo, oil, grain, and of course, cruise ships. Born in the small Norwegian fishing village of Nevlunghavn of a seafaring family, Dag went to sea at age 17 and spent three years learning the sailor’s trade on the “Taronga”, a 13,500 ton general cargo ship that carried 12 passengers. After his sea duty he enrolled in the merchant marine academy for three years. Eventually throughout his career he would serve as everything from bo’sun to carpenter to captain. Dag exudes a genuine graciousness to passengers and crew alike. He might be described best as “a sailor’s sailor.” Tall, tanned, blonde and blue eyed, Dag smiles a beautiful row of white teeth that gives ... read more

Hey all, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to update, but the thing is.....I'm on a freakin' cruise ship!!!!! So, I'll try to get everyone back up to speed :) So, the first day we left San Diego, and then we spent the next two days at sea. During the sea days, I became friends with several members of the crew, like the Cruise Director (JT, who is only 24 and has a HUGE responsibility.....he does all the talks and announcements and all the introductions to big acts. It is very rare to have someone so young in that large of a roll. He's the coolest guy on the ship), the Assistant Cruise Director (His name's Dan, but he also doubles as the DJ for the Dance Club, so everyone calls him DJ Dan. He ... read more

Boarded our home for the next 11 days Looking forward to lolling around for the next few days at the 10 degree south parallel before we stop over at Wednesday Feb 11th Fakarava in the Tuamotu day 2 As we rest in our cabin on the lowest deck, the sea is sometimes submerging our porthole; I asked Terry to move towards the center of the cabin so the boat would tilt the other way to see the light! Very exciting, we have never done this. Our suite friends think this is very funny! Our cabin was changed at the last minute from a small 2 bed on B deck also to a much larger 3 bed with 3 closets- we are in B22- I complained about the change as we embarqued and before we saw it, ... read more
