Day 1: I awake at 5:50am and find myself in a Sheraton hotel room 40 feet above the ground. I hustle to the bathroom to shave and shower. After I quick breakfast, I hurry to the main lobby to catch a shuttle at 7:30am. The shuttle driver asks me if I'm an officer on the ms Oosterdam. I lie and say that I am, thus not paying for the trip. About halfway to our destination, he asks me for my ID number. I tell him I don't know it. He smiles. I arrive with three other REAL officers at the ship @ 7:50am. I pass through security, surrender my Passport to the Crew Purser, and follow a dozen other new crew members to the gangway. I then recieve my room card, ID number, and a stack ... read more

Good Friday morning for us. We are now 4 hours behind EST. No photos today as there is nothing to see except water water everywhere! Check the Spot Tracker to see our progress across the Pacific to Honolulu. The Queen Victoria is a beautiful ship and still brand new. It is quite a contrast to the Queen Mary 2. The layout and the décor are like that of a large yacht. You can get an idea what it is like if you go to the Cunard web site and click on “Our Ships” then “Queen Victoria” and then “Virtual Tour”. More to come when we get to Honolulu on Sunday. Granddaddy edited by John Please click on the links below for the tracking map, the Queen Victoria Bridge webcam and the Queen Victoria tracking map. Today we are having cold, rainy weather even as we near the equator. I even had to put on a sweater today. We arrived in Colon, the Caribbean port for the canal early Friday afternoon. Hugh and I went on a jungle tour that walked a mile through the rain forest, then a ride on the Chagres River in a boat that looked exactly like the Jungle Ride at Disneyland. We saw lots of leaf-carrying ants along the trail which just looked like pieces of leaves moving along by themselves. Lots of monkeys, too. Also a "Jesus Christ" lizard (its actual name) which walks on water. It was surprisingly pleasant -- not hot -- in the jungle. On the way back to the ship the tour stopped at Gatun Locks which are the first set of ... read more

Arrived Tahiti, the true Pacific paradise the traditional way; Tahitians singing and playing their tiny guitars, covered with flowers and smiling like they always do.. After a 4 days stop over in Auckland, New Zealand(coming from Tonga), it was REALLY good to feel the warm weather of the South Pacific again, and YESS we're truly getting spoiled with this lifestyle. Since Tahiti is REALLY EXTREME expensive, we didn't know where to stay the first night, specially since the only place you can book online are at the super expensive hotels..After having a chat with the information lady at the airport, she told us about this French guy renting out rooms cheap(not cheap but cheap for Tahiti that is.."Le Tangara Pension" is the name of his place). He picked us up in his tiny little French car, ... read more

Sea Day - January 2nd - 12:27pm Today is a once again do nothing day. Lee asked me if I wanted to go to work with him and learn about disembarkation, but all 5 of them were going to be there so I decided to sleep in. Of course I couldn’t get back to work so I called him and he said that they were already done. I got up anyways as I haven’t completed my cruise task. Lee asked me to do a photo essay of the ship. As it’s hard for crew to take pictures of guest areas and a lot of people ask him what the ship looks like. So I took a few pictures of public areas. Lee just finished work and is heading for a nap. I want to go see ... read more

Tasman Sea, New Zealand/Australia - December 30th - 6:39pm Well today has been an interesting day thus far. I tossed and turned all night because I slept so much yesterday. Still not feeling great but I am feeling a bit better. I got up at 9am to prepare for my interview. Lee and I wrote down a few notes and key words for me to say during the interview. I was going to watch the Secret for a bit but I don’t know what happened to it, I think Lee stole it from me. I got dressed and went up to the office early to print out my resume. I was being interviewed by Luc and Jim (Training and Development officer). The interview was a little bit of a joke since Luc knows the situation with ... read more

Tasman Sea, New Zealand/Australia - December 29th - 9:00pm Well today I did absolutely nothing except sit in bed and sleep. I woke up with a sore throat and a massive headache, that didn’t go away all day. It’s very rocky outside and the combination of sea sick and a flu don’t really mix. I haven’t gotten out of bed much, trying not to move a heck of a lot so I decrease the nausea feeling. Lee has the entire day off so he has the joys of trying to make me feel better! I hate being sick. I did manage to get myself up and dressed to go to the show at 7pm. Leo Ward a comedian and magician. He did a lot more comedy then magic but regardless he was funny. He started out ... read more

Travelling from one paradise, Samoa, to another, Tonga, meant crossing the freaken date line again, getting a little bit confused on the days now.. Except this time we actually lost a whole day and arrived 1 day to late to meet our friend Øystein…yess, we’re catching up to celebrate his birthday, Christmas & New Years in the beautiful Pacific islands of Tonga. Arriving the main island of Tonga, Tongatapu made our start of exploring this kingdom easy; travel agencies, shops with normal stuff like food, beer etc & cheap fales (bungalows), cheap for the pacific islands that is. Niiiiice.. After booking plane tickets to the Ha’apai island group for celebrating New Years, we settled down at Ha’atfu beach & surf resort in Tongatapu. Being only surfers staying at this place, we really felt at home, ha ... read more

Sea Day, Tasman Sea - December 13th - 12:33am Not too much to report today. Lee got up to go to work; I rolled over to read my book and haven’t moved since! Lol Lee just called me to inform me that he was an hour late for work due to the time change last night that he seemed to ignore. He gets a good comment one day and a bad comment for being late the next. He claims that he choose to take his break first though. We ordered some room service to eat while watching a movie. 11:00pm I haven’t done much more today. I also set up my computer. It’s always nice to know people on the ship that help you out…Internet anyone? I did manage to get up to the gym again, ... read more
