Boarded our home for the next 11 days
Looking forward to lolling around for the next few days at the 10 degree south parallel before we stop over at
Wednesday Feb 11th
Fakarava in the Tuamotu day 2
As we rest in our cabin on the lowest deck, the sea is sometimes submerging our porthole; I asked Terry to move towards the center of the cabin so the boat would tilt the other way to see the light! Very exciting, we have never done this. Our suite friends think this is very funny!
Our cabin was changed at the last minute from a small 2 bed on B deck also to a much larger 3 bed with 3 closets- we are in B22- I complained about the change as we embarqued and before we saw it, Ms Wong, of the Aranui III owner Wong family, suggested that it was better than we had paid for and that I should have a look- it is great; the boat, a hybrid freighter- cruiser is meant to carry 200 passenger , we are only 120, wonderful for us.
Food is very good and the portions are reasonable, I will probably still fit in my
clothes at the end of this one: but they pour bottles and bottles of red or white wine at lunch and dinner, hard life.
First day thon tartare as appetizer…
Just came back from seafood salad, fish, rice with vegetables and mushroom mousse lots of white and red wine and a tour of top suites, med suites with no balcony, A deck, our room on B deck and the Dormatories- 8 strangers to a room! Was fun with Eva- London, On, Chuck and Alice- Hawaii and New Mexico, Dan, retired printer from France and Gaby from Germany.
Back to first day,… ,
prime rib and éclair for desert, rested and attended a lecture of “life on board”; dinner was chicken ceasar salad, espadon and tarte tatin. Breakfast this morning was cereal, fruit, cheese and croissant. Coffee and tea 24 hour a day; the coffee lady slept in this morning so we had warmed over coffee lukewarm as we watched sunrise over Tuamotu, hang loose philosophie.
Life on board is laid back here, a bit like Hawaii with its hang loose philosophy. They still have not changed the schedule of activities from yesterday and it is past noon today! We don’t
really know when laundry day is or the next lecture. I have had to back off and hang loose!
All is well, ttyl, love to all
Day at sea tomorrow (Feb 12th ) then the Marquesas
Fakarava you ask?
Atoll in the Tuamotu line of Islands, Terry and I snorkeled, swam and walked the beach. There were black pearls to buy from merchants but very expensive, we will wait for our last stop back in the Tuamotu, in Rangiroa and see then if Terry is feeling guilty about no present for Valentine Day. The water was ice and warm, and its colours ranged from golden aqua to aqua to blue to navy blue, I stayed suspended for almost an hour just enjoying the feeling . Bad news: Terry and I both had to throw out our silk long sleeve shirts for travelling because they fell apart; you might remember that I wore mine for every picture during the world cruise.
