Hi All Arrived in Nelson on Tuesday pm after almost 3 days of rain as we travelled up the west coast. Stayed in Franz Josef Sunday night hoping for weather change Monday but by 9am it was still v cloudy over the mountains and no flights we going. Decided to move on up the coast to Westport - a long day driving but not a lot to see on the way if the weather's poor. Apparently the views are great over the mountains when the weather's fine. Stopped for 2 hours at Hokatiki to se the kiwis in an artificial nocturnal setting in a small eco nature place. Great to see them and almost impossible to see them in the wild. Nothing much to see at Westport but went out to Foulwind Point - very appropriate ... read more

Greetings from civilisation (I mean that they speak english). It's been a while since our last update because we've been very buzy or very lazy. After the Inca Trail we vegged in Cusco for a couple of days doing the touristy sights (museums etc). We then headed for Nazca to see the Nasca Lines, huge patterns (some over 100m long)carved into the worlds driest desert. The only way to see them properly is by plane. A four seater plane (including the pilot)was our transport and the flight alone was fantastic as the pilot banked steeply first to one side then the other as he pointed out the patterns on the ground. The afternoon in Nasca was a bit more sedate - we toured a pre-inca cemetary. There were bodies that had been mummified by the dry ... read more

Bula Vinaka! What a beautiful country!! 'Lapped by clear warm turquoise coloured water, fringed with vibrant coral reef and cloaked in the emerald green of the tropics fiji is the paradise seekers dream come true'. From Lonely Planet 2004. i cant put it better than that! Stepping off the plane at Nadi airport your body is instantly envoloped with a warm suffocating humidity & you immediately feel you are in a foreign land. There is a party atmosphere everything is totally relaxed (fiji time). Which basically means you add 20 minutes onto everything. Which means everybody here is a lazy git. Which means i was at home here. Your senses are bombarded with the smell of fresh fruits on a nearby market, the fijians have tendancy to spontaneously break out into song with drums and guitars! ... read more

Hi all Travelled over the Haast Pass from Wanaka to Fox Glacier yesterday. Wanaka very nice along the lake front - sat out and had a coffee and would have been nice to sit and relax there for a day but had to move on. Driving times are longer than you would expect despite very little traffic on roads but winding roads and lots of stops to look at views all take time. Arrived at Haast on West Coast at about 2pm and it started raining as we pulled into the local tourist office and has rained almost non-stop since. planned a flight over glaciers and alps for today but have rescheduled for 08.30 tomorrow if weather ok. If not we'll press on up the west coast and have to come back to do the flight ... read more

Hello all Comtinuing to have a great time. Weather remains good with lots of sun and very little rain. It's been quite a busy 3 days since the last entry. We moved on from Dunedin and headed south towards Te Anau. Took a detour of about 100km from Balclutha when we went to see the wildlife around Nugget Point and Surat Bay. Not much at the former except seals swimming below the cliffs but at Surat we met up - almost literally - with the sealions. We went for a walk on the grassy track behind the beach and could see a female sealion on the sand about 10m away. Whilst quietly watching it flick sand over itself to keep cool in the sun Joan saw a bull sealion heading for the beach. It came out ... read more

Thursday, 11 November 2004 I've been in Griffith since tuesday afternoon when I arrived in the afternoon following a four and half hour drive. The weather on that day was hot enough to drive with the air-conditioner on. I had been to this centre last year but for the life of me, can't remember doing the job. Forty children were photographed yesterday and I worked so hard in the hot sun I became dizzy. The staff have been extremely helpful and this enabled me to do the job well. I'm back at the usual Budget Motel on the eastern end of town. Compared to yesterdays weather which was around twenty six degrees, today has been wet and windy. This will probably be the last job for the company this year.... read more

Hiya everyone, Tue 9th Nov Up at 4.15am to make our way to Cairns airport to fly back to Sydney. We manage to make it to the airport with plenty of time to spare (you only need to be there an hour before) i very nearly left my swiss army knife in my handluggage, how stupid am I. We didn't have to wait long for the plane and we were soon boarded and on our way. I think the flight took about 2hrs 30min im not too sure because the time is different in Sydney to Cairns and i got confused in my tired state. We get off the plane and get our bags, which all happens very quickly and then head to the train to get to Sydney Central. I texted my friend James who ... read more

Hello all Had a good journey down from C'church to Dunedin vie Oamaru. Set off late from C'church due to delays with campervan so stopped a night in Oamaru. went to see the yellow eye penguins on the way but could only see them from about 100m away on the beach. Stopped for lunch on the beach and saw these boulders - amazing geological phenomenon. Called in at Shag Point and spotted several fur seals on the rocks. Arrived Dunedin Sunday and went out to Otago peninsula ( went along the Highcliffe Rd to get there - sheer drops and tight bends but great views if you could bear to look - the driver couldn't and the passenger wouldn't and wanted to get out and walk - not fot the fainthearted!! ) to see the yellow ... read more

Hello everybody, I said i would maintain email contact, and so far i haven't really, but i guess it's only been just over a week. Nothing really too eventful to say so far. I'm in melbourne, in a beachside town called St. Kilda. It's really nice, although it's a bit of a trendy place. Full of trendy clothing shops and cool cafes. Places to spend money, when i don't really have the funds to spend money, or the room to accumulate things. But there's always just hanging out at the beach. But there hasn't really been much, if any nice weather yet. A bit of rain, and quite a bit of grey skies. I think i have about a month until consistently nice weather. I'm not minding it too much, because it's still better weather than ... read more

Hiya everyone, Sun 7th Nov At last we finally reach Cairns which is in the north part of Queensland. This will be our last stop before flying back to Sydney. We find a hostel for $14 a night so very cheap but why this one won us over was because we could have a free dinner at a busy pub in town evrynight we stayed. I was plesantly suprised by Cairns because i feared it would be like Brisbane where i didn't like but thankfully it was far from it. The hostel is ok but what do you expect for the money but one good thing is that the kitchen is spotless. We dumped our stuff and headed in search of a supermarket for some dinner. It is so humid here and there is just no ... read more
