Every time I got these photos out I would get homesick! They were taken on my last hunt with Burnz down near Whangarei on a private block. As Burnz would agree we had plenty of opportunities but failed to deliver the real goods. Can't wait to crack back into this.... read more

After passing the Breakaways Rach, the two Irish John's, and Uver (he;'s german) and i switched busses and headed to Uluru. We camped in swags, think an candy wrapper made of canvass that you put your sleepig bag in and become a cocoon to avoid the frigid desert nights. At 5 am we got up to see Sunrise then hike uluru. Only Rachel and 2 japanese girls from our bus violated the wishes of the native owners to not climb uluru. So they when up, while the rest of us went around the base. Uluru is huge (which is why it is famous) and all red sandstone. The stone looks so different in the light and from angles. At points it almost looks like cloth, it has that drapery look to it. It is so beautiful. ... read more

PNG News- #16 The Road to Bundi (August 26, 2004) Well it should have been the road to Bundi, however the policeman’s truck was bugarap and he turned back at 5:15am. So Jamie, my 24 year old British fellow trekker and I went back to sleep at the Catholic Mission and then spent yet another day walking to Brahmin. On this final hike, six members of the Warriors- Brahmin’s under 21 rugby team saved the day. They showed us shortcuts down steep mountains, bought us bananas, and most of all carried my pack. Surrounded by a circle of young beetlenut chewing men we waited for the PMV to take us to the Highlands Highway. Where after a flat tire, a lots of watermelon we negotiated a ride back to Madang. So the trip to the highest ... read more

From Adelade we headed North. Yay warmer! We started by stopping for a 10am wine tasting. The wine was really good too... So all buzzed up on Sav Blanc and a Rose Dessert wine we headed north through the Flinders Ranges. Lunch was a tasty Kangaroo Pie, which might be my favourate red meat. Who needs cows when you can have roos. From there we went to Alligator gorge... hiked through the river and gorge. We spent the night in the bustling metroplis of Quorin. In all seroiusness it is almost a real town. It had a decent pub. you've gotta love the Aussies, they build the worlds longest fence as a deterent to keep the dingos away from the sheep and cattle. now any dingo that wanted too could get through this fence, but it ... read more

were our dinner in Adelade, but i get ahead of myself.... After the Blue Mountains Rachel, Brendan and I headed into Sydneyto have drinks and dinner with my friend Beng, his girlfriend and his brother Vincent. (Beng is an Aussie who i met in Copenhagen last summer, and the 2 of us spent several days exploring.) At first i was concerned that the whole thing would be awkward. No worries, it turns out. We started immedately drinking, an activity enjoyed by all! Everyone got along, we were all quite animated and ejoying ourselves. Dinner was Pizza (for everyone but Rachel, and her pasta was the best thing we got) and 2 liters of house white wine. It was the worst wine i have had in australia, but we drank all of it. From dinner, we headed ... read more

Oceania » French Polynesia » Bora Bora August 23rd 2004

It's always been a dream destination of mine...to see Tahiti. Her beautiful Islands lived up to the gorgeous brochures we have all seen and drooled over. But, the sparkling jewel was defintely....Bora Bora. The beauty of this island took my breath away! I visited Papette, Huahine, Moorea....which were all beautiful, but Bora Bora just stands out with it's amazing view. As I landed, and saw the almost black mountains{Mount Otemanu and Mount Pahia}, with the lush emerald greenery and the stunningly gorgeous blue lagoons...no words can describe the beauty. If, I appear to be 'gushing' it's because I am. This is paradise. And paradise does come with a price. Yes, a high price! Over-the-water bungalows start at $500 USD a night. Oh.....but, what a splurge. With glass see-through coffee tables ....you can see schools of fish ... read more

Last night Rachel and I met up with Brendan, her friend Debbie's good friend/boyfriend from Sydney. After a seafood dinner at Darling Harbour, and a drink he took us to sleep at his house (real beds!). I was a bit jet lagged and at dinner i had hit this wall where all i wanted to do was sleep. And i slept well! After Rachel and I finally finished planning-- and for the record, i love that girl to death, but we really shouldn't plan things together-- we ate some breakfast. The off to the Blue Mountains. We took lots of photos, hiking down to the 3 sisters, and then down into the rainforest below the orphan. We took a cool cable car back up from the rainforest... it was fun. Next stop, back here so Rachel could do ... read more

Only Rachel would come up with that description for a purple cactus which was shaped like an artichoke. So here i am in Sydney, after 36 hours of travel. I got through it of course and it was totally worth it! The trip started off well, with an improptu discussion about the hideousness of the american job market and the problems of standardized testing when i checked in at Newark airport. Lets put it this way, i had 4 very liberal conversations enroute to Sydney, 2 with americans, 2 with Aussies. These 4 conversations, the empty seat next to me from LA to here, and the 8 hours or so of conversations i had with my friends while at LAX are what made the trip overhere bearable. After landing and getting to town, we took much ... read more

Sunday, 15 August 2004 It's been a very long day, that consisted of a eight hundred kilometer drive, taking nine hours to complete. The Princes Highway starts a few suburbs from the centre of Melbourne and I joined it on the outskirts of Dandenong. Traveling towards the east, the road took me through many towns I have already worked in, Warragal, Morwell, Traralgon, Sale and Bairnsdale. Some of these have been visited this year. It was a good run out of Victoria. Mostly blue sky's with some scattered clouds that bought patches of rain. It was around two o'clock in the afternoon when I made my first stop at the Gippsland town of Cann River. Half an hour later I crossed into New South Wales. The weather got worst after I crossed the border. This part ... read more
