Hi Everyone, Well I am finally going to finish the journal of my trip before it is so far away that I will forget everything. Of course the time I choose to do this I really should be studying, but I've had enough for the day. So I think I pretty much finished spain..... We had an interesting time getting to the Barcelona airport. We left our lovely fancy (but cheap amazingly enough) hotel with great instructions from the receptionist to get a taxi (note to self....travel LIGHTLY next time :p) to the train station and get a bus (which supposedly left every 20mins) from there to the airport. Upon arrival at the train station we got lost, got sent from counter to counter only to be told when we were finally able to ask for ... read more

We got picked up at 10am and taken to the car rental place to pick up our car, it's a great day and after a wee check over for scratches and that we're on our way to the Bay of Islands in Northland, the top of New Zealand. We have 3 different maps and they all say Paihia is 270 KM from Auckland but they all give different estinates for time, the AA goes with 7 hours and our hostel sugests 3.5 hours, we were slightly more than the ACE car rental map (4.5 hours) and done it in 5, however we did have busy traffic leaving Auckland and stopped for lunch along the way. The drive up was amazing, stunning scenery and a clear blue sky, it was roasting so the air-con took a fair ... read more

Ok, firstly apologies for my very delayed blog update but unlike last time when it was due to laziness, this time the reason could not be further from my natural lethargic tendencies and is in reality due to the fact that since arriving here in Australia my life has been incredibly hectic. To summarise... I flew into Sydney on New Year’s Eve and thanks to Mark had a ticket to experience the New year’s celebrations on a boat moored in Sydney harbour, which has got to be the ultimate in New Year’s parties - Thanks Mark. What was also amazing about that day (and the rest of my time here in Oz) was how incredibly lucky I have been. I arrived in Sydney in the morning of New Year’s Eve unfortunately without anywhere to stay, as ... read more

I usually have a problem waking up in the morning and require about half an hour to get out of bed, however that was not a problem today. A 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit in the Wellington region and it seemed like a pretty big one. At first I thought it was a strong gust of wind but I saw the walls bending back and forth. It was pretty freaky and I could feel a surge of adrenaline hit me as I sat in bed. Everything seemed to return to normal when I was going to work, the radio guys were talking about it and speculating when the 'big one' was gonna hit. At work, it was the topic of conversation in the morning. We had a few smaller ones a couple days ago and they were ... read more

We were up early today for our breakfast in the hostel, $7 for all you can eat cereal, fruit, toast and that, we had a good skelp at it then out to the Tourist Info for advice on cars V buses. To cut a two hour chat, and a long story short we've rented a Toyota Sprinter, (1999), 1600 AUTOMATIC for 29 days starting at 10am tomorrow, about 30 hours from now!! I've never driven an automatic but I'm sure it'll be straight forward, they drive on the same side of the road from us and the only difference I can see is that you give way infront of you if the car is turning right. What I mean is you're at a traffic light and it goes green, there's a car coming towards you but ... read more

HELLO ALL!! Well we're still in one piece and have managed not to kill one another so its all good. We've had a few bumps such as trying to put up the tent on Thursday night, full of enthusiasm for the first nights camping, and realising that there was no fly sheet in the tent bag!!! Whoops. Cold night by the beach, but the nice guy in Rebel Sports gave us a free one so its sorted now. The flight to Auckland was delayed by an hour or so while we were on the plane as all the power went so we just pretended that our flight was 4 hours instead of 2 1/2. We stayed in a hostel in Ponsonby called Verandahs and it was the best. Small and cosy and v friendly. Sent in ... read more

Hello friends, family and other fabulous people! Thanks for caring enough to check out my journal. I am hoping to keep this updated should the web-gods be kind. Please add comments, it would be great to hear from you.... but remember the world at large can read them all so save the raunchy messages for the email (use the contact ZoMo button) ;) Quote of the day: A woman is a lot like a tea-bag, only in hotwater do you see how strong she is. It's now nearly three weeks since new year and I'm still banging my head against a solid brick wall. Everyone's back at work now but after speaking with various agencies it seems that in order to get aircraft work, I need to get security clearance. No problem I thought. However, it also seems that companies are unwilling to grant security clearance to people with working holiday visas. 'king brilliant. No work for me. I wouldn't mind so much, but all you hear on the news and in the papers is how Australia is desperately short of skilled people, and how kids these days refuse to take up apprenticeships. You'd have thought that they couldn't afford to be so fussy as to who they take on. Oh well, looks like fruit picking for me! Gary started a ... read more

We got into our hostel at 2pm today then promptly went to sleep, we never slept much on the plane so had been up for about 30 hours, a few hours later we are up at them and out to explore Auckland city. Already we love Auckland, it's an amzing city, it's twice the size of London with just over one million people, it's really spread out but the centre is quite small, small enough to walk everywhere, we're down at the Harbour side of Queen Street. It's really like Edinburgh, loads of greenery, plenty familiar shops and loads of English accents. We set about exploring the centre, the Sky Tower, the Harbour Bridge, Albert Park and down the Waterfront. Now Fiona said that we would save money here and it is really cheap, well the ... read more
