Well today saw us pass the 14,000km barrier on our ozzie road trip. Quite something in just over 3 months! We set of from Townsville this morning to begin the trip up to Cardwell, our overnight stop on route to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef! On route we drove 28km up a winding mountain side to a village on the summit called Paluma. During this treck we stopped off at Little Crystal Creek falls and then travelled further up to the rock slides, a large stream of water which has eroded away at the surrounding rocks creating a natural water slide. To be honest it looked a little dangerous to me, but Oli went in and had a go while i just took a splash in the pool area which was refreshing and well worth ... read more

I caught the bus up to the huge Botanical Gardens out of the city in Mt Coot-tha reserve. The gardens seemed a little dry but then Queensland is having drought problems....a number of the fountains in the city have been temporarily deactivated. The planetarium was closed but the fern hous, Japanese garden adn highly comical Bonzai house were entertainment and relaxation enough after all my action in Byron. Mt Coot-tha provided stunning panoramas of the whole city and valley, looking back towards Byron and on towards the gold coast. The evening held more intrigue as i used my day pass from the bus on the City Cat boat that runs along the river. I caught it in the south bank parklands and cruised along to the Riverside Centre from which i meandred up to china town ... read more

Woke in Whyalla. Farewell Lee. Here a public and personal thanks for a great trip. Drove on very hot day to Port Adelaide. Found Yacht Club and shower. Sunday 12th Walked piers of Port Adelaide and spruiked Semaphore St cafes. Someone said Glenelg would be busy. Wandered the scene there. Someone said the festival in the city would be busy. Went there. Rundle St, center of Adelaide life. Late afternoon had beer at bar with jazz band. It started to rain. Met a young couple. He's a truck driver. Told my Nullarbor crossing story. Monday 13. Rundle St. crowd. Spruiked all day. Very busy. Lots of street acts. Fun.... read more

Well folks it's our last day here in Melbourne. The last week has been terrific. We have been into Melbourne as well as visiting lots of interesting places in the surrounding area. Following a very quiet weekend during which Linda revisited her culinary skills by cooking a wonderful Sunday roast dinner (whilst Ken went for a swim in the communal swimming pool with Richard, Ellie and Georgia) we ventured into Melbourne on Wednesday. We were first of all staggerred by the cheapness of the train fare - less than £2 each for the equivalent of a trip from Bicester to London! On arriving in Melbourne our first stop, more by luck than good judgement, was the Rialto Tower - the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere, according to the official blurb: we seem to be making ... read more

He gave me herring and mackeral cleaned for breakfast. Cooked on seaside barbie. Mobile coffee van wanted stickers. Spruiked in front of newsagency. Manager came out and wanted me to move. Got foul. I was sooo reasonable. Training. He actually shook hands and said to send cops to him to sort it out. My education and discipline continue. Went to beach which shocked me with its beauty. Swam. A runners dog pissedon my shirt. She was horrified. Washed shirt and pants and hung to dry near pier. Previous lovely lady came for coffee and made donation for stickers. Day 19 Monday 13th March Well it was back to work today as we both headed off to do the Defensive Driving Course. Hopefully we will now survive driving on the roads in Libya. After the course, which was in Jondaloop, we drove further up the coast to Minderie amd Mullalo hoping to find the bush and maybe some wild kangaroos. All we found was housing estate after housing estate. There are so many houses being built along the coast. It's no wonder so many people are emigrating to Australia as you can buy a fantastic property for a fraction of the price in the UK and moor your boat (if you have one)! Then it was back down to Cottesloe (our favourite beach) for supper and a quick look at the Sculptures on the Beach ... read more

Leaving Christchurch Tomorrow morning I leave Christchurch after a wonderful stay in the "Garden City" and head west on the Tranz Alpine train towards the west coast. My experience in Christchurch was awesome and the bar has definitely been set very high for the rest of the trip. I will attempt to provide a quick recap of the past few days since we arrived. The flight to NZ went very well, even though it was bumpy and our seats were on the 75th and last row of a packed 747 for 12 hours. Between 2 meals, drifting in and out of sleep and 7 movie channels on my very own headrest screen, I managed to stay occupied. We arrived on the 10th and managed to skip over the 9th entirely. Friday Arrival day was full of ... read more

Cheers Mads og Andreas... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Hanmer Springs March 13th 2006

Hello! We took the train from Christchurch to Greymouth today. It was a very pretty trip, I took lots of pictures. They even had an open air car that you could stand in- cool, but very windy! Then we drove to Hanmer Springs. We went to the hot springs, which was nice and relaxing after driving on the left side of the street for 3 hours! We just had dinner and are just going to relax for the rest of the night. Tomorrow, we're going to Blenheim in the Marlborough wine region. We're going to take a break in the drive at Kaikoura, where I hope to see some seals! Speaking of wine, we went to a restaurant called Annie's Wine Bar last night. This restaurant is what all restaurants should aspire to be. We started ... read more
