Even as an english major, I'm at a loss for words when it comes to describing the natural beauty of Queenstown. I've started this blog nearly 5 times now and can't seem to do these pictures any justice. All in all, my stay here has been eventful to say the least. Wine tasting, Bungy Jumping, Whitewater Rafting, Jet Boating, Hiking, & just a little bit of Partying... ... read more

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!! I hate the weather! We did not get to do our swimming with dolphins yesterday as it was too windy! It was not that windy in town but apparently it was very windy out to sea and a trip that had gone out earlier had to come back early. The thing that made it all the more irritating was the fact that we had booked it months ago before we left the UK as they get booked up weeks and weeks in advance. We think we will try and go somewhere in the North Island. We did go on a really good walk around the Kaikoura Peninsular though. It was a loop walk that took you along the shoreline then back along the cliff top. There were loads of seagulls (black-billed and red-billed) nesting on ... read more

Days 49 and 50 We ventured out and hand a wander around Auckland but not that much was open, so we bought a pot noodle for our gormet dinner (how's that for beginning the new year in style) and went to the cinema to see the Chronicles of Nania. It was cool. The next day we found out some very sad news - that Carly's Grandad had passed away. To try and cheer ourselves up we decided to book a trip to the Bay of Islands to escape dull Auckland so we booked that and had another wander, this time venturing into Parnell which is a really nice rich district of Auckland. Again, as it was a bank holiday there wasn't much going on.... read more

Happy New Year 2006! Thought you might find this somewhat humorous. Here is the travel blog's list of types of travelers. I'm put my self in the midlife crisis and wanderlust category. Gotta go.... Traveler Types 10 days and counting. Ughh, the stress of last minute preparations. Do I have everything? Plane ticket, bike, trailer, etc. I packed up the Cello case that holds my BOB trailer and bike. After that I don't want to take it out again. Quite the process. I'm sure that next time will be easier but I'm taking the instructions with me anyway (o: Backyard Adventure Girl... read more

We woke up with hangovers, feeling pretty poor. I fixed breakfast complete with streaky bacon (American style bacon as opposed to shoulder bacon which is NZ style bacon). It helped but both of us laid around for a few more hours before I decided to get up and take a shower. I felt so much better that Michael got off the couch and took one too. He was feeling like he needed a hamburger by this time so we walked the block into town. A lot of the restaurants were closed for New Year’s Day so we went to the grocery store and bought some minced beef (ground beef) and buns to make burgers at home. They were great American-style burgers. I don’t know what it is but there is something about Kiwi burgers that taste ... read more

Greetings to a new year all you upside down and 12 hours behind people. Just a quick notice from Marc and Claire wishing you all the best for the coming 12 months and hope you stick to your resolutions (for the first week at least). We ushered in the stroke of midnight at the Civic Square in Wellington and after one or two cheeky drinks, then partied with some locals (in the case of claire), or got lost and fell asleep (in the case of marc - thanks to the taxi driver whoever you are for getting me home safely).Anyway an enjoyable evening was had by all and our new years day was spent lazily reading, playing rugby ball throwing olympics with andy, watching films (the fantastic Still Crazy) and generally recovering. Tommorows missions are to ... read more

Happy New Year everyone! I spent the last few minutes of 2005 in Cathedral Square in the heart of Christchurch. url=http://www.travelblog.org/Australasia/New-Zealand/South-Island/Canterbury/Christchurch/blog-33478.htmlCaitlin's girlfriend Melissa had flown in that morning to ring in the new year and tour around New Zealand for two weeks. I took the shuttle in from Akaroa to meet them and to celebrate a little time off. I toasted myself on the bus with sneaky sips from my spiked Nalgene. Indeed, desperate times call for desperate measures. The night started with confusion as Caitlin and my vague emails had left us without a plan. While Cait, Melissa and Chipppy cruised around the streets looking for a tall Asian, I walked to the hostel. While I was primping for our night out, I was startled by a familiar voice. "Buddy!!" I turned around and there ... read more

Taupo seems to be the Chav Mecca of New Zealand and there sure was a lot of them. We first booked into Chav hospitality at the All Seasons Camping Ground where we were fortunate... to get the last camp site. We spent the evening listening to eighties rock classics really loud from a car stereo - some favourites of mine were Brian Adams's Summer of 69 and one with the lyrics that went on about someone being "Poison through my veins". Having rebelled earlier by tearing of our coloured campers wrist bands which we were forced to wear, whilst swearing an oath that we wouldn't steal an extra night on their camp ground, we went to visit the Huka Falls and a thermal park called "Craters of the Moon" (no moon I've ever been to, I ... read more
