Boxing Day Wanaka Didn't sleep too well last night legs were aching and I was a bit congested this morning thought I had flu but it wasn't that. Amanda made some poached eggs and just as we sat down to have breakfast we were skyped by Eve and Clive. It was lovely to See Steve's Mum and Kath and Ann and talk to them, SKYPE is an amazing thing! It is sometimes difficult as the conversation can overlap as there is a time delay on the speech but it is still brilliant to be able to talk and see someone at the same time.I tried to phone my Mum but the phone was always engaged which was disappointing. Steve went jogging this morning and hurt his Achilles' tendon silly billy! After unpacking and sorting out washing we went with Amanda to Queenstown. The journey over the mountains was so beautiful, the landscape never fails to please, streams bordered by lupins and broome, snow capped mountains, incredibly blue sky, hawks flying overhead, and a winding road that you must concentrate on as it goes higher and steeper with hairpin bends. We stopped for some pictures then on to Frankton for some shops and lunch and then Queenstown. Queenstown is situated on the lake and is very pretty and lots going on. It seems quite spread out but the shops are all in one place. Didn't stay very long as Steve couldn't really walk so I drove back the long way to avoid the hairpin bends.Came ... read more

This had got to be the most beautiful place I have ever seen. There is snow on the top of the mountains over looking Lake Wanaka. The sun has been shining all day. The South Island of New Zealand is stunning. We had alot of rain this morning driving through the mountains but when we got over the top it was hot hot hot. Am getting a lovely suntan. Tomorrow we move on to Queenstown where the build up to Christmas has begun. Apparently it will be partying for 2 days! Can't wait. Still meeting lots of lovely people. 13. November, Wanaka - gemütlicher Tag Ausschlafen, ausruhen - das ist das heutige Motto. Nach dem Frühstück fahren wir hinunter nach Wanaka. Eigentlich wollen wir noch shoppen. Aber die Läden sind entweder mehr als teuer oder sie haben nicht das, was wir suchen. In einzelnen Läden nimmt man uns gar nicht zur Kenntnis. Hier scheinen einige Ladenbesitzer sehr wählerisch. So suchen wir ein Café mit Seeblick und bestellen unseren obligaten Cappuccino. Wir treffen auf ein deutsches Pärchen, das sich auf einer längeren Reise durch NZ befindet und zur Zeit Arbeit sucht, um ihren Lebensunterhalt bestreiten zu können. Sie haben schon auf einer Schaffarm gearbeitet und erzählen von ihren neuen Erfahrungen. Nun suchen sie in Wanaka oder Queenstown Arbeit. Sie sind sehr aufgestellt und angenehm. 10. November 12, von Greymouth nach Wanaka Grauer, wolkenverhangener Himmel zeigt sich über Greymouth. Laut Wetterprognosen soll es richtig regnerisch werden an der Ostküste. Auch heute haben wir einen langen Weg vor uns - von Greymouth, über Hokitika, Franz Josef Glacier, Haast, über den Haast Pass nach Wanaka - etwa 7 Stunden reine Fahrzeit. Unterwegs wollen wir, wie gesagt auch noch zum Franz Josef Glacier. Nach Greymouth fahren wir über die berühmte Brücke - 1 Spur, auf der auch noch die Eisenbahn fährt. So muss man nicht nur schauen, dass keiner entgegenkommt, sondern dass es auch kein Zug ist. Gottseidank ist der Fahrplan der Eisenbahn so wenig dicht. In Hokitika fängt es an zu regnen. Wir tanken nochmals randvoll. Es sollte wenn möglich bis nach Wanaka reichen, denn tanken in der Abgelegenheit der Westküste ist viel ... read more
