After Dunedin we drive south along the coast through the Caitlins which is basically a scenic drive, we see some sea lions on the way and end up staying in Invercargill instead of a homestay on a farm which we had originally planned but made a hasty exit out of the farm due to its exrtreme remoteness. This just a stop over as we head for Lake Te-Anu.... read more

Un decor ... read more

Had a nice drive from Te Anau to Invercargill. We then drove down to Bluff at the end of the south island. I had a problem with the computer. I thought it was a goner but a guy computer told me to just take out the battery and reinstall it. Sure enough it worked. Kiwi word is Bach. This stands for Bachelor’s place is what we would call a cottage. On the South Island they sometimes use the term Crib. ... read more

....And we're back! After quite the absence from traveling and blogging, Tanner and I are once again taking to the road and spending the next 4 months slowly making our way back home. Our trip started on Feb. 24 when we left Wellington and headed to New Zealand's South Island. Here are some places we went/highlights along the way: - Hiking at Abel Tasman National Park: We walked more than 15 km (which is 9ish miles -- whoa) along beautiful beaches and up (very steep!) forest mountains. - Glacier Hiking: That's right, we hiked on a glacier. When I told my dad we were doing this, he said, "That's nice -- so now you'll be able to tell your grandkids what a glacier looks like." It was awesome. - Tanner went bungy jumping: And not just ... read more

Well I liked the place, Chloe said she thought it was dirty just like the UK. We were only there for the night so our view of the place was quite brief. We spent the afternoon in Queens park. It was very funny watching the girls running around after the ducklings trying to pick them up. Chloe was thier hero for saving one that got trapped in some drain thingy and couldn't work out how to get back out. There is also an aviary, small animal area with deers, sheep, wallaby's, guinea pigs, rabbits and some other small furry things. The winter gardens was a welcome break from the wind and the plants were amazing. Then there was the Alice in wonderland castle. It took us ages to get the girls off the slide. I had ... read more

We left Dunedin and headed for the Catlins. Which is the south eastern coast of the south island. It is mostly farmland, there are only a couple towns along the way. One consists of 350 people the other 32 people. It is also known as a haven for seals, sea lions, dolphins, and penguins. We saw all 4 of these creatures but the dolphin was asleep on the beach. The penguin was pretty special though. It was the yellow-eyed penguin which is the rarest in the world. We saw one in the middle of a petrified forest. We also ventured into a place called cathedral caverns, which due to the tides are only accessed for an hour each day but constantly changes so it was very lucky that the timing was right for us. It was ... read more

Down On Da FarmI am in New Zealand - just 20k or so outside of Invercargill at my mate Jeff's. I arrived on Monday, June 25. He picked me up at the Dunedin airport and we had a snow-flurried ride home :P (Boo-hiss snow!) I got some cool pics from the plane. On Tuesday we went to town and sorted internet, but didn't receive the modem and router until Friday morning's mail. We were busy all day with work and the boss here inspecting the house for updates (new carpet, appliances, etc...) and the work begins next week. We installed and connected all the internet gear last night, but then had mates over for a visit and were busy til late. Today we went for a long walk with one of his mates, Bryan, and his ... read more

Well the travel team are now all in the same place! A good start one would hope! The junior travel team member was not packed but that problem is being rectified as we speak. Tonight sees an early celebration of the 2 travel members birthdays since one will be in the channel tunnel on his birthday (Pete) and the other will possibly be in Prague (Mitch). Hopefully we have been able to download a photo of the full travel team! Take care everyone.... read more

Welllll, okay. I am tired of the bus... tired of being in transit. Tired of hostels, and partying, and drinkers and meeting kids whos parents paid for the entire trip. Tired of lost causes, and single serving friends, and tired of sleeping on the bus. Also supremely tired of seeing people time and time again fall in love and then get torn apart due to the fact that they live in different parts of the world. It happened again yesterday. Yet another really nice couple on the bus have been seperated. True it is sad. But somewhat expected to be sure. And as for yours truely (aside from being dragged all over NZ) i am in good health, and doing what i do best. Also considering coming home in september, then going to mexico for a ... read more
