So we finished our project and had an emotional farewell this morning on the beach with everyone. We sang some songs and waited for the boats to arrive. We got on and had a two hour boat ride to Suva. We slept for most of the way after having a late last night in the village. When we got off on the mainland we were swapping onto the coach when I slipped over and cut my arm open on a rock! Saki the leader bandaged it up and drove me to Suva Private hospital- who were brilliant- and stitched me up (5 stitches!). Then we went into Suva where people shopped, I just sat in McDonalds as I was in a it of pain. Then we drove to our rest and recovery resort 'the beachouse' it ... read more

Bula, ok, this is the last time I say this, we're leaving tomorrow, very sad, had a great time here, which is down to the people. The Fijians are very friendly and genuine, they give off happy vibes, very refreshing. Stu and I said we are going to be like that all the time when we come home and at work !!! This morning, we thought we would get a double kayak, so I sat in the back, Stu said 'don't think I'm doing all the paddling', we hadn't even got started, anyhow paddle paddle paddle, hard work or what, I said ' can't we just drift for a bit', but I think he thinks he's still in the navy and it was just endless paddling, flipping heck, needed a rest after that. We then went ... read more

Bula, still here, never want to leave. Today we had a driver who took us to some sand dunes and promptly told us to climb them to get the view. They looked mighty high and here I go again, I was scared !!! So of course we climb them, (because I haven't been scared for a couple of weeks now !! ) I just followed in Stu's footprints, it was quite a job getting to the top and it was hot. Anyhow got to the top of that one and Stu said we'll climb the next one. Really ! Sure this is not enough ! nope, let's climb the next one while we're here and we did get fantastic views, no denying that, we saw the ocean and mountains and it was quite spectacular. Now for ... read more

Bula, still here and not wanting to leave. Yesterday we did a bit of island hoping, such a brilliant day. It was a 2 hour journey to the port to catch the boats to the islands. We decided to do the Mamanuca Islands on a yacht. We had to catch a catermaran to the yacht which took an hour and a half. The scenery was magnificent, took you're breath away, there were islands everywhere, some people hopped off as people chose different islands to visit. We transferred onto the yacht with various other people, only to be greeted with champayne, flippin heck, loving this already. We were introduced to the crew who were a real friendly bunch and proceeded to wait on us hand and foot, they then started playing guitars and singing as we sailed ... read more

Bula, well it has been soooooo hot here today, 32 degrees, hardly anyone was sat out in it. I got up at 5.30 am and went outside this morning and watched the sunrise, it was stunning, lazy bones was still in bed. Got him up at 6.30 am and we went and did 40 lengths in the pool, after feeling guilty because 'groupon' gave us a voucher for 'lovo buffet' last night, so we kinda ate for England, starter, main and pud, twice over !! Thank you groupon it was lovely !! I then went off to have a morning massage, which can I say was soooooooo relaxing, lots of 'clunk clicks' in my back, but the girl worked those out, so booked another one for sunday ! You may think I'm being extravagant, but good ... read more

Bula everyone, well had a very relaxing day today, we went down to the beach, which is just outside our bungalow and we appeared to be the only one's on there, so we got our lily white bodies out and blended well into the sand !! You couldn't see us !! It rains here first thing in the morning and then late afternoon, but it's nice, cools it down but is very humid here. The hair is just stuck to my head constantly, but don't care and not even attempting to put make up on as that will be running, but again don't care !! The water is like a warm bath with lots of coral, fish and star fishes in it. Stu decides that he is going to walk to the shop, he has already ... read more

Bula, were in Fiji, let me just repeat myself again, were in FIJI !!! Bula means Hello. Well it was touch and go whether we got here or not. Believe it or not this was a groupon deal and we all know what groupon can be like, but the deal was too good to turn down. So we booked it, but there was one snag, the transfer time was really pushing it, so Stu spent most of yesterday on the phone to the airlines, to see if we could perhaps stay overnight in Sydney and other options, but alas not to be, they only gave us 30 minutes max to get from one terminal to the international one as well as picking up our cases. Now Sydney is big, too big for the transfer we needed, ... read more

Had an early start, packed and got ready for my flight. Laurie, Kathryn and Emma came round to say goodbye and we hung out in the kitchen chatting with Alan, Warren, Alex and French Alex! Then it was time for goodbyes which were of course traumatic :( the girls walked me to the station where we had lots of hugs goodbye!! Then I had an easy journey to the airport and a quick check in. The time in the airport went quickly and before I knew it I was on my Fiji Airways flight. The flight was about 4 hours, so went quickly. We had a chicken pasta meal with cheese and crackers and a chocolate biscuit- it was all good! I tried to sleep for a bit. The In flight films were terrible and we ... read more

Fiji is a little patch of paradise only four hours flight from Sydney, and literally on our own doorstep. Aussies flock to this South Pacific paradise in extraordinary numbers, and it's amazing that I have not previously graced the shores of this beautiful island country. Now is the time to make amends, and I've booked a full week to get to know our near neighbour, the Rugby loving and Kava drinking friends of ours from the biggest island country in the South Pacific. Nadi is the international hub where most tourists fly into rather than the capital Suva, and the airport is less than ten kilometres from the centre of town. When I mentioned to the tourist information team where I was staying they informed me a taxi ride would be covered by Bamboo Backpackers, so ... read more
