Went to day 1 having got a ticket off a tout. The atmosphere was good and England bowled well. It was a very hot day too and I was sitting on the grass hill.... read more

Donderdag 14 december.

Went to a lunch today with one of Lee's friends Tim and his friends from Newcastle. The guest speakers were Kym Hughes and Ian Botham. Alan Mullally sat on our table but was very hungover from a going out with Botham the night before. When it got to Botham's speech he was clearly quite merry but told some very funny stories.... read more

Drove up from Nornalup running on empty (note to self, do not expect fuel stops every 20 miles on an island the size of Australia), but happily made it without having to walk for gas. Pemberton Farm (where we are staying) is wonderful - the chalet overlooks a field full of horses (eurghhh), sheep (no reaction) and roos (aaaahhh), and there is also a pool, a playground, a trampoline, and a morning feeding session (more "aaaahhhs") of the animals. Edens day today (Thursday Dec 14th) * Wake up at 07:30 * Brekker * Go round farm feeding animals 09:00 - 09:45 * Get driven to play ground and play * Go on tram ride into the forest (and back) * Go to Hidden River Winery for lunch, play in garden there, run around dining tram eating ... read more

The teracotta warriors were AMAZINGS. I half expected them not to be great as i was expecting and to be a bit let down, but no way. Not just the warriors themself, but the story behind them, and the concept of a young emperor commanding that many people (millions) to do his bidding and indulge him was sensational.... read more

Monday 11th Dec While packing last night I was talking to a girl (Jane) in my room who had been staying there a long time we just had never been in the room at the same time as eachother and she said she was travelling to Kalbarri as well tomorrow. So when I woke for the bus at 4am and saw her asleep on the sofa I woke her up and we both sleepily stumbled onto the bus for the journey south. We arrived at about 9am and on the last bus spoke to a guy called John who had come out for the cricket. The town is fairly big compared to what we have been use to which means it has more than one street! We all went for Brunch and then I hid inside ... read more

Panic in Perth We left you with a bit of a cliff hanger at the end of the last blog. We wanted you to experience a small fraction of the adrenalin (read: stress) we felt at the moment we started to think that we might not be able to get to Sydney in time to catch our ship to New Zealand. You'll remember that we got to Perth around 9am on the morning of the 6th. The Indian Pacific was due to leave at 11:55am. The booking office at Perth Central station advised us that the seats were sold out. They also told us that there was no longer any coach service running from Perth to Adelaide or Sydney because flights had put them out of business. We checked our e mail to see if our ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Margaret River December 12th 2006

Leaving Perth behind we headed to the south western corner of Australia and the Margaret River Region. We have been treated to amazing caves, chocolate, fudge and cheese had a wonderful week. Our first stop was Busselton and the underwater observatory. Here you walk almost 2 k's along a jetty and then you walk 8 meters down under the sea all without getting wet!! It was ideal for me (H) as I finally got a good look at the underwater world without having to worry about my ears. The view was pretty amazing, there were a fair few fish but my favourite thing was the coral on the columns holding up the jetty. The colours were amazing and made for excellent photos. After Busselton we headed for Margaret River. Whilst in town we sampled the fudge ... read more
