We went to Kings Park which overlooks Perth CBD. There was a wildflower exhibition on this month and they had flowers from all over the state. At the water garden there was some baby ducklings only a few days old. Perth has a free bus service called CAT and there are 3 of them. The red, blue and yellow. They criss-cross the Perth CBD. Fremantle also has the CAT. We got to catch one when we went to the Post Office to collect our mail. We caught up with our friends that we met in Coral Bay - the Pipers. James is the same age as me and his sister is 1 year younger than Kate. We had 2 plays and stayed for tea one night. We went to the Perth Mint and did a tour. ... read more

We missed out a blog on another place that we visited in Western Australia..........this place being Rottnest Island, we visited there on my birthday. Rottnest Island is a 20km (30mins) boat ride from Fremantle docks. We were lucky enough to have bikes that Lynda and Sean had kindly lent to us. The Island itself is only 11km long and 4.5km wide so nice and easy to ride around!! The ferry that you take accross charges you a fee of $12 to take your own bike with you, which we were quite shocked about but it is still cheaper than renting one when you get there. As we were there in Australian winter it was nice and quiet as it gets pretty busy with school kids in summer. The weather was perfect for cycling around not too ... read more

Rottnest Island, has some of the world's finest beaches and bays, and is located just 19 kilometres off the coast of Fremantle. Roisin dropped us off in Fremantle to take the ferry across to the Island. Once we arrived, we rented some bikes and made our way around with ONE gear only. This proved to be a bit of a challenge as we cycled hard to get to the lighthouse (highest elevation point on the island). At the bike hire we encountered quokka's. Don't ask, just look at the picture lol. We spent 4 hrs on the bikes and stoped from bay to bay to check out the amazing scenery (as shown in the pictures). We can't stress enough how incredible and surreal this location was. The weather started out a bit overcast, but turned out ... read more

Pahkailin aamulla mita teen passini kanssa. Turvalokerostakin aloin epailla toimiiko se tai saako sita sitten auki. Turvauduin minigrip-pussiin. Voisin ryhtya minigrip-mannekiiniksi, kun niita pusseja on tullut talla matkalla kaytettya. Herasin aamulla jo klo 6 - aamuvirkku rytmi siis, no Melbournen aikaahan se oli klo 8. Ehdin silti vasta klo 9.30 lahtevaan laivaan. Olin saapunut rotanpesasaarelle. Vuokrasin polkupyoran. Mukaan tuli kypara ja lukko. En ottanut koria, mutta sain hyvan neuvon miten reppu saatiin sidottua kunnolla tarakalle: vanhoilla katkaistuilla sisakumeilla. Kiersin saaren myotapaivaan. Sattumalta sain... read more

So...my ipod may have actualy died. My moment of rejoice as it worked again last night was short lived, as i have had no luck out of it all day. I know this sounds like not a major thing but it really is. The idea of no music for the next 10weeks is not worth thinking about, seriously, if it has died, i might actually cry! Am researching the possibility of buying a new one and either stealing some of the mckays music, or maybe transferring mine from ipod, though latter unlikely! ARGH. worst comes to worst, will have to buy a pocket radio!eeek. Back to today then! It is 10:16pm and I am sat in pain. Why i hear you ask? well because today i easily made 30km on the bike, exept on a different ... read more

Sorry about not updating my blog for a while...I got busy with school for a while. Speaking of which, school is going well so far, I'm actually enjoying my classes! Between school and work, the only thing I've really done is visit Rottnest Island, which is such a beautiful place!! I was only there for one day (and the ferry takes about 2 hours) so all I really got to do on the island was snorkle, but it was so much fun and I saw amazing reefs and fish (even a sting ray!). Also, the island has quakkas! Quakkas are a type of marsupial, smaller than a kangaroo, that are only indegeneous to Rottnest Island! It was such a wonderful experience!!... read more

I am sunburned. Really sunburned. I just had one of the most exciting days I've had since I've arrived here. I've been having a great time, but it's been pretty comfortable and suburban - going to bars and clubs, getting driven to the beach, etc. But! yesterday Adam and I visited Rottnest Island, which I suppose is sort of Perth's equivalent of Toronto Island. We woke up at seven-thirty (a significant event to us at this point) and took the train out to Fremantle (origin of musician John Butler) where we caught the ferry for a wopping 50 dollars, and that's with student discount. We got out to the Island and did a bit of food shopping. We rented bikes (25 bucks apeice) and snorkel gear (17 bucks apeice). I felt like a huge tourist, having ... read more

Last week we went to Rottnes island where I work as a volunteer, and of course we have a wonderful time snorkelling, swimming, bike riding. Roman fishes and makes sure we have enough food to eat each day. Rottnest is only traversable by bike, bus or walking so we tend to get quite a bit of exercise just getting from our cottages to our destinations.... read more
