Where was I? ah yes, well as I said Glenelg was a great choice so was sorry to leave on Thursday night, shared a cab with 2 Swedish girls (yes guys they were blonde) and checked in for train, whilst waiting they entertained with their juggling, they apparently make travel money by performing in bars etc, but they did not light the sticks, thought to myself how funny it was to be outside Adelaide Rail Terminal watching 2 beautifull Swedish Girls juggle for me, another good reason to go travelling. Anyway 2 nights on a train? painfull, you just end up sleeping on the floor wedged under the seats, still sat mostly in the lounge and met interesting people, stopped at remote outpost Cooke with four people and got a sense of a proper desert place ... read more

5/7/06 Another beautiful sunny day and a chance to explore Kalamunda properly. Had lunch in Stirk Park reminding us of the carols we heard there in Dec 2000. Went into ANZ and changed our bank account so we didn’t accrue bank charges and looked round an old railway carriage, too late to visit Historic Village. Drove up to Gooseberry Hill and admired the wonderful views over Perth. Claire stayed for dinner again and watched a bit of Wimbledon. 6/7/06 Bim's day at work. Up early to find the hospital Bim was visiting for some rehab! Found it ok so popped out for a coffee to start the day. Went to Perth’s outlet village for a good wander and sampled a Subway for lunch, great will try one in the UK now. Drove up to Kings Park ... read more

Hi all This is just a wee message to say hi to you all and sorry for not being in touch blog-wise recently. We have arrrived in Western Australia and are busying ourselves with outings, jobs and socialising in Perth. Had a blast in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore and hopefully you'll be able to read about it sooner rather than later. Then there is all that gossip about the green man we have been hanging around with since we hit Australia... We miss SE Asia but are safe, well and happy in Perth. Lots of love, Karen & Helen ... read more

Here we are in Australia, wiping the red sand from our boots from the recently visited Red Center. We're currently in Perth on the West Coast of Australia - and very nice it is too, a nice place to shop and eat - which we're enjoying after visiting Ayre's Rock or Uluru as the locals prefer it. We have another 2 days here before heading off to Johannesburg, South Africa. The crime stats don't read too well for Jo'Burg so I think we'll be heading out of town pretty swiftly and then on to Kruger park to see some big game. ... read more

Well hello again ye followers of our trip. It's been a very interesting few weeks since we last updated you all. Adelaide - Alice Springs (the hard way) Australia is COLD!!! I don't care what you have seen or heard it's definitely cold (in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, in the middle of winter, in a tent). The days are pretty warm though... We Jumped on a bus in Adelaide early one morning for an 8 day trip to Alice. It's about 1500Km if you go straight, but who wants to do that??? The first day involved travelling through the beautiful Clare Valley and on to FLinders Range stopping to see some aboriginal cave paintings. That night we camped out at Wilpena Pound in minus temperatures. Civilisation just seemed to disappear ... read more

I've been here almost a week, and it's amazing. The very first day I saw koalas and kangaroos and parrots flying loose in the trees like it was nothing special. I walked around town a lot on my own for three days then more people from the program showed up and I became the tour guide, fine by me. Yesterday was the first day of class. We arrived to a man painted in traditional handprint ocre doing traditional aboriginal dances which we had to join in on. We had to take part in a smoking ceremony where they burn native tree limbs and leaves and you walk repeatedly through the smoke as a cleansing of the mind and a releasing of any evil spirits you brought with you. It welcomes you into the nation as brothers, ... read more
