It's been nearly a week since i last updated this, and we've done quite a bit since then, including doing to the West Coast Eagles v Brisbane Lions Aussie Rules Footy match at the 43,000 seater Subiaco Stadium, which was great fun (even though it took us nearly an hour to actually work out how its played!) We were supporting the Eagles, as they are the local team, and they unded up thrashing the lions 122 - 63 which only made things better. We also went down to the WACA (the cricket ground where part of the ashes is going to be played in december), and although the ground was closed, the security guard was nice enough to let us in to have a look around, and then spent about half an hour telling us how ... read more

Josh and I went to an Aussie rules footy match today, we saw the West Coast Eagles crush the Brisbane Lions by 122 points to 63... it was an awesome game, but one of the most brutal sports I have ever seen, some of the players took some really big hits, the kind that would have football players writhing on the ground for hours. From there we went out to the pub, watched some football, dissappointed to see Chelsea win the league, but i guess it was inevitable Had probably the best day so far yesterday went on a trip to the Pinnacles, these weird rock formations in the middle of the desert. We also saw Koalas and Kangaroos at Yanchep national park, and went sand boarding on the dunes (like snow boarding, but on sand) ... read more

Hey all, we've been in Australia nearly a day now and it all seems pretty cool, not really been up to that much yet, because we're both pretty jet lagged, and have only had about 5 hours sleep since Sunday night (it's now wednesday evening here), but if all goes to plan we should hopefully be doing some surfing and checking out some Aussie rules footy matches pretty soon! Perth seems well nice from what we've seen, very clean, a bit quiet, but we havn't had chance to check out the nightlife yet. Today we've been to Kings Park, which is basically a huge park with loads of cool wildlife and trees etc, we've seen a load of parrots flying about and heard some, and i've even managed to get a bit sunburnt already, even though ... read more

We arrived in Perth at 3am this morning, I am absolutely shattered having had maybe 4 hours of sleep since Monday. The trip here in total took just over a day, including a 13 hour flight to Singapore and a 6 hour flight from there to Perth. We stopped off in Singapore for a slightly surreal couple of hours, wandering around the airport in a sleepy daze. Rather amusingly the hand drying machines in the toilets were manufactured in Guildford and the airport has a swimming pool. Once we arrived in Perth (at about 12.30am) we then had to work our way through immigration and find our way to the hostel via a rather dodgy bus driver (had a habit of running red lights and hitting the curb), and we were finally in bed at just ... read more

Week 5-6 (8th - 24th April 2006) We arrived at Esperance on the afternoon of April 7th after a 4 hour drive east from Albany. Esperance is based around a port which controls a large portion of the wheat export from the agriculture-belt that runs from Perth 600km to the east. The export of wheat (and a few other commodities) takes place through a huge hangar style building with a customs building tacked onto the side of it. The shipping of the goods is done using the railway and also the notorious 'road train' vehicles, which are 3 articulated lorries joined onto each other to make one huge train. Now that I have set the scene - our camsite was alongside the main road into the export yard. This meant that we had a constant noise ... read more

Hi All I am probably the only person in the world who would have an travelblog entry about the planning of the trip rather than the actaul taking of it. However I just thought I would explain that our big trip around the world does not start until November. I was just so excited about the trip and I wanted to be able to share our adventures with all our friends and family that I decided to set up this blog 9 months early. So do not expect any more enteries until later this year. As we know more dear reader so will you... Bubbles... read more

Weeks 3-4 (24th March - 7th April 2006) Although it seems a tradition to name your vehicle when travelling so that you can call it names if it breaks down, our truck is still un-named! We have already had one suggestion of calling it 'Roly' which seems quite apt as the thing has more roll than a hotdog vendor when cornering at speed. This of course never happens when Claire is driving (guess who's writing this blog at the moment??). Any further suggestions to the name of the beast will be much appreciated - it's chunky, heavy on it's feet, not too good looking, is a bit bouncy on bumpy ground and grunts a bit when put under strain! One suggestion from the diveclub will be ignored however......we're not calling it 'Moose' ! ! ! Anyway, ... read more

Hello, Welcome to my webpage, I hope to update this for each country I visit, but we'll see how it goes, and whether Sally can be bothered finding the internet everywhere (I would of course update every day but Sally won't let me). On Sunday we fly to Melbourne, and then on Tuesday we leave for Santiago, Chile. I should probably return to supervising Sally's packing now - I think I need to remove half of the stuff she's going to take. Sock-puppets travel with a lot less. Oh well, I'm not the one who has to carry it. If she doesn't hurry up she'll be late to her going away party. I'll keep in touch, from some new and exciting place. Goodbye Perth, Sehrusaan... read more

Weeks 1-2 (10th-23rd March 2006) Greetings from Australia!!! We are finally here for good, after a seemingly endless wait for the house to sell - but it all happened so fast in the end that we didn't have time to stop and take a breath!! Sincere apologies to all the family and friends that we didn't get a chance to say goodbye to. It just wasn't possible to do it all. Still, you can always come and visit us in Oz for a cheapy holiday when we eventually settle somewhere. So the grand plan for those of you who don't already know - we landed in Perth Friday 10th March after a rather long journey via Kuala Lumpur and Kuching. We have spent the past 2 weeks buying a car (Toyota Landcruiser 80 series, 4.2L Diesel ... read more

We were especially excited about getting to Perth as Mark's Mum & Dad were waiting there to meet us. Despite arriving late at night, we sat and caught up over a bottle of wine before heading up to the luxury bed we had been treated to. Perth is a lovely city and we spent the first day exploring it. Then we arranged a hire car so that we could drive south along the coast to experience a bit more of Western Australia. Partly for the benefit of Mark's parents but also for us, we visited a wildlife park near the city to go and see some kangaroos and koalas. We stroked the koalas and tried to feed the kangaroos who had obviously already eaten plenty as they wouldn't eat anything. We then drove down to Rockingham ... read more
