Did not take too long to make it through Perth airport, but we did get a shock when the sniffer dog jumped on us as we were queueing up to get our stuff scanned (they scan the luggage on the way into the country as well as on the way out). Not sure what he smelt on us - probably Bex's dirty socks - but nothing happened in the end so it must have been a false alarm. Met up with Maria and Steve (Maria is living in Oz now and is Beckies friend from school / back home), picked up the car and made our way to Northbridge, a Perth backpackers suburb. Luckily the Aussies drive on the left so it was really easy to get going and driving should be a breeze, but all ... read more

Well as stated on previous blogs i am in Perth now - and it's cold - wthf?! Didn't pack my bloody jumper , what a flaming galah! Pressing on , arrived in Perth and found ourselves a native to ask advice , native in the fact she was wearing khaki shorts, khaki shirt and weird hat with corks on! Asked her advice on hostels and she gave us a couple of ideas of which we chose OBH simply because it was located right next to the beach - yaye! As soon as we arrived i was in awe of the Beach, bloody lovely mate! My joy was actually short lived as i had to venture into the hostel - it was like an episode of the real world , where were all the adults?!? Apart from ... read more

G'day folks, A bit late on the blog again but its been another busy one for me over the last two months. Heres how it goes...... I got into Perth at ridiculous O' clock in the morning and headed straight for my hostel which a couple of mates from Melbourne had already booked us into and had pretty much a whole day of sleeping ahead of me. When i could finally muster up some strength to go for a wander, which admitedly was a couple of days on, I headed to Kings Park. The park is home of the flame of rememberance for all the soldiers in the war and has an incredible lookout point over the entire city and Swan River. Other than Kings Park my first impressions of Perth weren't that great, i didnt ... read more

So, I've spent a bit of time in Perth now and the blog really needs updating. Basically been keeping my head down and earning a few dollars to fund further adventures! After the hardships of working on a sheep station (see previous blog), I spent a couple of weeks chilling out at a hostel in central Perth. I realised fairly swiftly that its a fairly unproductive use of my time and money so I snapped up a bit of casual work moving office furniture. This was childsplay after Rawlinna and also brought in $140 a day, cash in hand, thank you very much! Gave me a chance to actually save a bit seeing as a weeks rent is only $99 for the ten bed dorm. Restrained myself admirably from pissing it up the wall in the ... read more

So since our last entry we have done a few wild things as well as chilled out. We went on a tour of the Pinnicles, which is basically loads of limestone formations that have been left after years of erosion of the ground- an amazing view. But the trip also allowed us to see our first Koala and many kangeroos!! We also went sandboarding, which was great fun- I kept to the safe method of sitting on my bum on the board where as David had to show off and go head first- he loved it! We also went of roading on the 4 wheel drive on the sand dunes- very exhilerating. The tour guide-Big Al was a really nice guy and gave us loads of tips about driving in the outback. We got to sit ... read more

So, Catching up on my old blog - and announcing my NEW ONE! Thank you so much for following my Travel Blog from my flying days. How things have moved on since then! I cannot believe that it was four years ago that I was conducting the 'travel' adventure with Emirates and gallivanting across the world. Many of you have written to me asking advice about working with Emirates and about Dubai generally. I hope that I have been of assistance to you, and I haven't got round to it then please feel free to drop me a line again. 4 Years On I am no longer in Dubai. I was there during the boom - and very during the BUST! What a shame - but it was certainly good fun while it lasted. I doubt ... read more

Here is a run down of our first week down under- We met our first local on the bus trip to Cottlesloe, the beach town just outside Perth, who told us a few tips of places to go and where not to go- he advised that we were going to the posh side off town and that the beach was the best around, great!! He was telling the truth, the beach was fab but the people were a little too cosy together (all locals) and we found it a little hard to mix. Anyway when we got to our hostel it was about 6pm and was very chilly so after a brief walk along the beach we headed back to settle in and get an early night. The next day we decided to go and see ... read more
