From Thursday to Sunday we were fully focussed on selling the Cruiser, getting up early to drive it around the corner and park it in the hotel carpark (which was the busiest corner in Kununurra and where everyone parked vehicles for sale). We also advertised on Gumtree and we had some interest (locally and interstate) but it was a slow job waiting for the right buyer to come along. We reduced the price and almost immediately, we had more interest and we agreed to sell to a local couple. During this waiting time we did some bird watching at the local Celebrity Tree Park. This is a great park with many old trees (including a massive boab) but some newer ones that have been planted by celebrities that have visited Kununurra. We also had the tyres ... read more

While we had been touring the Kimberley in the cruiser, our bus had been parked at Jakes (just out of town at Crossing Falls). We knew that it had a flat battery because Jake had been unable to start the bus and run it while we were away. It turned out that we hadn't got the isolator switch correctly set when we left and that's what had caused the problem. We drove out to Jakes and confirmed the bus would not start and then called the RACT (who then got in touch with the RAC in WA who then contacted the Kununurra agent to arrange for a jump start. Of course, it was a little more complicated because the Coaster has two batteries and runs 24 volt electrics. The guy finally turned up after more than ... read more

After a sleep-in we knew that the first things to do (after breakfast) were renewing old friendships at Wild Mango and with Darryl, our mechanic. The cruiser had made it down the Gibb River Road without missing a (mechanical) beat. What a team: The Cruiser, mechanic Darryl, and Lenny and Georgi, driver and co-driver. It was hard to split the team up but we had a bus to catch (the Coaster) and we discussed with Darryl the best way to market the Cruiser.... read more

We woke at 5.30 and looked outside - Bunnings! We had free camped in Broome as it was school holidays and we knew that most places would be full. By the time we got dressed and were ready for breakfast, it was still pretty quiet in Broome. The Saturday Courthouse market sellers were just arriving as we cruised past...and headed to Maccas! Yes they have a healthy muesli breakfast (and reasonable coffee) but there were no photos to incriminate or embarass anyone. We left Broome and arrived in Fitzroy Crossing early in the afternoon. We stayed again at the Motel / Caravan park but the grass was noticably thinner this time. We had a sleep-in on Sunday and left Fitzroy Crossing just before 9am. We decided to turn left from the Motel and we knew that ... read more

The fridge we inherited when we bought the Cruiser had always been quite noisy. At night, we could hear it switch on and off as we slept upstairs. Still, it was disappointing to have to abort the trip down the GRR and return to Kununurra. Further bad luck was to follow because when we got to the camping store, they had just sold the cheaper model of the fridge size that we needed and we were faced with choosing just the one remaining (expensive) model. So be it. As I was paying for the fridge, someone came past and knocked my cap off my head! I turned around and there was Neville (the sparky saviour from ElQ) and his partner, Lorne. What a surprise! Of course, Neville was quick to offer us his help with the ... read more

First thing Monday we are heading off to Wild West Car Care which is run by Darryl Pearson. As well as detailing, Darryl is a very capable diesel mechanic and owns a Toyota Landcruiser himself. What he has forgotten about Cruisers is more than lots of people know! He replaces the bearing, gives the Cruiser another checkover and pronounces it fit and ready to tackle the Gibb River Road (GRR). Thanks Darryl!... read more

We limped back up the highway (making more and more noise and getting funny looks anytime we stopped) and eventually got to Kununurra about lunchtime. Kimberleyland was quite full so we booked in to the Town Caravan Park. This is a small park but, as the name suggests, it is close to the "city" or CBD of Kununurra. Importantly for us, as we might be without a car for a day or so, it was close to Wild Mango cafe and the supermarket! There are a high percentage of permanents at Town Caravan Park and everyone is friendly, particularly Heather and Gary, the resident managers.... read more

Having survived our first trip in the Cruiser we decided to up the ante and plan something more ambitious.....The Bungle Bungles! (or Purnululu National Park as it is now known) We picked up the new awning and had the day to get organised for the 3 to 4 hour trip down the highway before the turnoff to the Bungles. To clebrate this momentous decision we decided to go to the Pumphouse again for dinner.... read more

Dragged ourselves away from the wonderful Ruth and Opal and all of the lovely people we had met on the cruise. Went to the market in the local park at Kununurra. The Walkers (Ivan and Pam) turned up at Kimberleyland Caravan Park - we had drinks at the Walkers and shared information on recent places visited with a few people. Lazy days again.... read more
