Geo: -15.7739, 128.739We left Katherine (disappointing) on Monday morning. The scenery along the highway was beautiful. We stopped at Victoria River Roadhouse for coffee and the area is kept lovely and the staff are very friendly. The caravan park looked ok. We reached the border of NT and WA and had to stop like every one else. There is no going past this check point. They look through all your cupboards, fridges (including car fridge) and take rego numbers etc. The only bonus for us was the time change which meant we gained 1 1/2 hours. This got us to Lake Argyle Caravan Park earlier than expected so we went sight seeing. Lake Argyle is massive and our pictures don't do it justice. Didn't take any tours here. The staff at the park are very friendly ... read more

Wow What a day Out early to get some supplies. Shoppers in Darwin Take note Kununurra Coles is about 20% CHEAPER than Coles Mitchell Street BEAT THAT. Kay called into see the guys at the local office and had a wonderful reception They were all very pleased to see her and wish her well on her travels. Back to the caravan Site for a long lazy swim then readied ourselves for an amazing cruise on Lake Argyle. The biggest man made Lake in the Southern hemispher. approx 75Kms Long and approx 45Kms wide with depths ranging from 5 meters to 35 meters.A lot of water. We had 2 swims even though there were fresh water crocs around but far enough away not to bother us. Got back at 8.00pm after the cruise so a good cool ... read more

The first thing we had to do after entering WA was to put our clocks back 1 ½ hours. What we did not expect was that the sun now rose at 5am and set at 5:30pm! Our camp site was right on the edge of Lake Kununurra, giving us a view of everyone who fails to catch a fish. (Greg included.) Kununurra surprised us. It is a lovely country town on the edge of a lake, but also surrounded by typical Kimberly ranges. There are lots of interesting things to see and do. We learnt all about the local Sandalwood industry. The traditional sources in India are becoming rapidly depleted, demand is increasing, and Australia is stepping in to fill the gap. In a similar tone, we visited the local rum distillery, “The Hoochery”. Not much ... read more

Towns that start with “K” are starting to be associated with rescue from some challenge; firstly Katherine and now Kununurra. The information bay on the outskirts of town yielded the addresses of a couple of tyre places. The first did not have a tyre in our size but the second came through. Within 15 minutes we had our replacement spare tyre fitted. Whew!... read more

Days on the Road = 93 Days (13 Weeks 2 Days) Well today is the last day that we are in Kununurra and Western Australia as tomorrow we will be heading into the Northern Territory which we are really looking forward to. During the night we had our first rainfull in three months and it was great to hear and certainly cooled the air down. For the whole time we have been in Kununurra the temperature has been a constant 40oC, it hasn't really bothered us as I think we have been acclimatising to the heat as we have headed further up North. Our last stop for Western Australia is a visit to the 'El Questro' Wilderness Park. We hit the infamous Gibb River Road and head out to this lovely park that covers a million ... read more

Days on the Road = 92 (13 Weeks & 1 Day) Today is our youngest birthday, "Happy Birthday Sweetheart" XXXXX We are now on official school holidays which the girls are really happy about and so is the home tutor. It has certainly been a learning curve, home schooling the girls but they are doing really well. We started our day with a visit to the Mirima National Park with sandstone ranges that are approximately 350 million years old. The colours in the rock formations are just stunning and they have been liked to the "Bungles Bungles" and as such they call these the mini Bungle Bungles. We take a short walk along a track to the lookout that took us up to the top of the range where we see the spectacular views over the ... read more

Days on the Road = 89 Days (12 Weeks 5 Days) After our experience in the overnight bay it was good to wake up in the caravan park and get ready for our adventures in Kununurra. We moved to our official site the next morning which was a lovely spot overlooking the lake but we were told to make sure that we were inside by sunset as the mozzies and midges could get quite bad. We were also told that there were bats that flew in every night into the tree near our caravan, we were just on the edge of tree so hopefully we were far enough away from their droppings! We met "George" that night, a 2m fresh water crocodile who lived in the lake and frequented the shoreline every evening just in ... read more

Days on the Road = 86 Days (12 Weeks & 2 Days) Today we set off towards Kununurra with a view to stopping overnight in a free overnight campsite as it is quite a distance to go and we didn't want to arrive at night. What we have noticed particularly since Broome is that there have been significant bush fires along the way and today was not exception. Burnt bushland after burnt bushland. Not sure whether any of you have watched the movie "Wolfe Creek" but it is really scary and we've decided not to visit as it would be too freaky so instead we take a photo of the sign as we pass! Hahaha.... Our first pit-stop is Halls Creek for a brief and I say brief lunch and toilet break, it is not a ... read more

8th July 2012 We left Parry Creek Farm just after 8am and drove the short distance to Kununurra. We went to the Information Centre and booked a river cruise for tomorrow, did some shopping and set up the camper at Ivanhoe Village Caravan Park. We were able to wash the car, which was absolutely coated in red dust. We drove to Kelly's Nob lookout, Ivanhoe Crossing (river crossing) and through some of the agricultural area, which is absolutely lush. We bought a few vegetables but not many as we may not be able to take them to the NT. The weather here is gorgeous, 30ish and sunny (I see it is about 16 in Perth - we are skipping this part of winter :D ). The boys had a swim in the pool and we made ... read more
